Does anyone remember this? I just received this from a friend and did not know Don Garlits ran for US Congress.

I have a vague recollection of it. He must not have won, or we'd have known more about it.

He didn't win, but as I remember he did better than expected in what everyone thought was (at best) a long shot.

Yup. I remember. He's uh, pretty far right wing.

What really sunk him politically was his  "aliens have taken over the government" website.

Not kidding, he's a big believer in UFO's, aliens and some conspiracy stuff. He had a site bemoaning the "takeover" of the US government by aliens and was WIDELY mocked. Lizard people, underground bases.....the whole deal.

Gar is a nice guy, the greatest drag racer ever, but....................................a bit far out on some things.
