Snake45 Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 I’d never heard of this one until I ran across this example last month at the local toy show. $15, brand new in original box, good deal! I fell in love with the Corvette Bronze color instantly, and the paint is quite nice overall. No T-tops are included, just the open framing. I gave the thing my standard Level 1 Snake-Fu: sanded tire treads, hit the parking light stems with white to hide them, blackwashed the grille, and detailed the all-chrome Rally Wheels with black and Testor Steel. When finished, I decided the silver T-top framing looked too big and too simple. I google-imaged pics of this area on real cars and decided it would look better with the edges and other “weatherstripping” areas in semigloss black, so I spent about an hour doing that. This was time well spent; this area now looks quite a bit better. I’m very pleased with the finished result, especially considering the minimal cost and time expended. It even displays well next to the much more expensive Mint ’69 Corvette. I like it a lot. Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome.
swede70 Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 (edited) Greetings, I think the color is known as Ontario Orange which is a pleasant and warm tone certainly. Nice work performed consistent with bringing this good tool up to snuff. Thanks for sharing... Mike K./Swede70 Edited September 23, 2019 by swede70

Corvette Bronze was available in 1970 and 1971. This is very similar but not identical to '68 Corvette Bronze, which looks to me just a hair darker. The model is sold as a 1970 in Corvette Bronze. In real life, it's a little more brown and a little less orange than it looks in my pictures. I suppose one could call it a '71 in Ontario Orange if that's what you wanted on your shelf, but I'm quite happy with it being a '70 in Corvette Bronze. BTW, Diecastwarehouse shows these available again in red (they don't show the Bronze one). Thanks for your kind words.
randyc Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 Looks good. The fender lips are very pronounced on the Maisto, but what ya gonna do?
Gramps46 Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 I have the same Maisto in dark blue. Always wondered why the T-Tops were not included. Nice upgrade on yours.
