philo426 Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 Thinking of taking a AMT truck chassis and making a Winnebago Chiefton.Any advice?
espo Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 AMT used to offer a chassis mounted cab over camper kit. I think it used a Chevrolet cab and chassis. As to weather or not it was a Winnebago I'm not sure. The point is any pictures of built models might give you some ideas for your build. I know that in the last year more than one has shown up on the forum and they can be found in some of the pictures from different shows also on this forum. Someone here might even have an unbuilt or built model and they may be gracious enough to share some pictures that may help you.
Fat Brian Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 For one that size you're right on the line between a heavy pickup chassis and a commercial truck chassis. For ease of acquisition I might start with an AMT C600 or the Ford Louisville. Those chassis are long and flat and straight so you can just start hanging big flat pieces of sheet stock.

The camper is what is in the Model King release of a few years back.

I had a chance to buy one of these 1:1 campers on a Chevrolet chassis in the late '60's. The guy had already worn out the engine, lack of maintenance on his part, and the interior looked like they had a wild poker party that got out of hand and they never cleaned it. I think it was around 1969 or '70. I passed at $1000.00 .
Bainford Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 (edited) Are you stuck on 1/24 scale? I built one of these 1/20 scale kits when I was young. It's pretty simplified, but would make a great start. Edited October 22, 2019 by Bainford
