mustang1989 Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Progress is looking good so far Logan. I've used both the foil and the pen on interior door panels and have gotten satisfactory results from both. I do have to say that you tend to get the allowance of a "do-over" with the foil. Just my two cents.

I got the "new and improved" variation, as I have seen some incredibly mixed reviews about the old ultra bright chrome. Bo, what I was meaning was trying it out on the inside of the door panel that wont be visible, just to practice hitting the details I want on something no one would see on the finished model. But if it's as easy to just peel off and start over, I'll forgo doing that and just dive right in. I also have several brand new #11 blades so I'll set a few aside just for the foil. I also ordered an extra can of primer, as I MAY have accidentally caught a glimpse of a Christmas present from my 8 year old. I saw AMT and it looked like Corvette taillights...I'll have to act super surprised lol, she was trying so hard to hide it. That's awsome man... my wife got me the Polar lights 66 batmobile with the resin Batman and Robin figures... been on my wishlist for a very long time!! Sadly I just sent of a parts replacement request to round2 for the "bat spinners" for the wheels as 3 of them were missing when I opened it. If it's the 63 vette, it is a pretty strait forward build with a molded promo type tub and such. But can be made into a very nice looking model. I have that kit and it's on my build list for sure! Hope you are having a very merry Christmas!

I would have personally chosen a vintage model but she thought this one "looked faster" haha. I'm gonna have her help me build it. BMF arrived today. I work this weekend but plan to start into it on Monday.

Nox Posted December 27, 2019 Author Posted December 27, 2019 I had to at least try it out tonight. All things considered, I think this turned out magnificent for a first attempt. A magnifying glass would come in really handy, so that's now on my list of things to get. I had a few misses while trimming, as you can probably see on the center trim. Total time was about an hour and a half, but I took my sweet time on it to get it as best I could.
Bucky Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 Looks great! And, you're right to take your time. Also, try to use a light touch with the trimming utensil! They have a tendency to wander out of bounds, even on a straight piece of trim!

Magnifying glass would have probably knocked the completion time in half just from being able to see precisely where I was cutting. I'm also a firm believer in using it now instead of paint!
Nox Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 Got some more BMF done. Haven't had much time to work on things due to holidays and work schedule. A buddy of mine is a taxidermist and is going to give me an old airbrush of his to try out. It's just a cheap one but I figure it'll give me more control than the spray can. If nothing else I'll test it out on something. If I like it, I've been looking at possibly getting a Paasche TG Talon.

Get yourself an optivisor or some other sort of head mounted magnifier... (usually the more expensive the better, unlike some things) If you will only be doing car models I would suggest going the route of a single action airbrush... in my experience the learning curve isn't as steep and they tend to do a bit better at covering large areas consistently. I personally use dual action, but that is because I was mainly a armor and figure modeler before getting back into cars, so I already had it. I'm now about to invest in a good single action, just to paint car bodys... not that I don't like the dual action, I just want to press a button and go...(also with a larger needle/nozzle). But hey, go with what you want, as they all have their place. Again, the door panels look excellent!

Actually works great, I just have to get used to the magnified workspace. I felt my cuts were much more precise on the second door panel and the gear shift base though. As for the airbrush, I could honestly see myself possibly enjoying the dual action operation but I see your point as well about "press a button and go". I'll have to play around and see what works.
bisc63 Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 +1 on the single action airbrush; you will be surprised at just how much control you have with one. Paasche H is a workhorse. DickBlick.com (art supplies) has good prices.

speedy5963 Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Nice work! Looks like the build is coming along great!
Nox Posted January 17, 2020 Author Posted January 17, 2020 Haven't had much time to do anything lately on account of work, but going to try to get some stuff done this weekend. Even if it's just a little more BMF.
