Well respected and admired as a person, race car driver and later a team owner. His teams won the NASCAR Championship three times with Cale Yarborough in 1976, 1977, and 1978. Also three times with Darrell Waltrip in 1981, 1982 and 1985. Other drivers that drove for him at different times were Terry Labonte, Bill Elliott, and Geoffrey Bodine who would eventually purchase Jr.'s team. Besides being inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame he was involved in many ways that helped NASCAR behinds the séance including obtaining R.J. Reynolds sponsorship for the series for many years.

Junior Johnson...now that's a race car name for sure!

I've read articles about this man, from his and others' days of back roads and moonshine running from the law.

An extraordinary driver, able to slide cars on small roads, paved and otherwise, like the law had never encountered previously. The back woods boys from the east still do amazing, and have amazing knowledge of how a motor can work.  Read NASCAR.  These guys are the real motor builders...period.

Yes, RIP Junior Johnson.
