My quest for this Exoto Chaparral 2E has finally ended. Took possession of this beauty today. There are many working features on this model and i will include as much as I can under the pictures. This is one of the last pieces I was seeking for my Chaparral collection. I still have to build the Fisher version of this car and now I am anxious to get to it.  Thanks for looking. DSC06867.JPG.00946322c9c30dafcc723240654267f7.JPGI bought this version in the prototype form with no numbers or sponsers.  I  may add them later if I can find a good sheet.

DSC06868.JPG.2cfcdb8ab4f7beffd6cebfcf8ab32079.JPGThis is my favorite angle of this car showing the business end. Note all the screens and exterior detail, they didn't miss too much/.

DSC06869.JPG.5bf1217913b06254db55d018f03a41b0.JPGSide veiw, the wing strut is detachable and adjustable. Many working features on this car, inclusding, steering throught the wheel. working suspension, opening doors and removable panel and setabelts. All done to perfection.

DSC06863.JPG.71348ad3c2a56b199afc45d62fbab237.JPGSome fo the incredible detail on this diecast. Not too many lines or detail missing here. Not too many people know the Chaparral 2E had two wings. The second is visible at the bottom of the picture.  Both wings were activated by the same pedal.  the front wing is hidden under the front body panel.

DSC06864.JPG.54b1456571de5bd04be87f870a617ad3.JPGMore incredible detail in the business end, Luv those exhaust pipes. I have checked some of this against the actual car and most of it is spot on.

DSC06866.JPG.3de16a016ae04043c9cdfae2cda50d79.JPGInterior detail is also accurate with period correct seat belts. See some more of the front weing detail at the top of the pic.

DSC06870.JPG.e37a065c41a8a8746af9427a9338d71c.JPGThe whole collection of 2E's. Front #65 is my re-visitied IMC kit in 1/24. The #66 in front is an LS kit with added wheels and details. Not a very good kit and it is actually supposed tobe a 2G, In the back is my old IMC kit that was done circa 1965.

As as been said here and elsewhere, in the day, Exoto set the standard for quality and detail.  I have several different lines of Exoto models in my collection, and they stand head and shoulders over their contemporary competition.

Agreed.  But being new to this hobby (in any serious sense) roughly what year(s) would you constitutes Exotos best years, i.e., "back in the day?"

And, if you can, what would be the  (ballpark) average price of a 1:18th Exoto back then?

Thanks in advance.

Since i was a diecast dealer and owned a retail store back then I suppose i would be qualified to answer this.  Exoto/s heyday  was from (approx) 1997 to 2002.  Most of their best models were released then and after that production ground to a halt. They still produced catalogs with future releases but those were few and far in between.  Retail price for an Exoto was $130 to $160.   The piece above was purchased off Ebay after I inniated a search. They alerted me by email when one would come up and eventually I took the best offer.  Hope this answers your question?
