Anyone else have an issue with Molotow Chrome Pen running under clear coat?

I know that Molotow Chrome Pen and clear coat are not quite the best of friends, but I though that clear coat just dulled the chrome. I just discovered that the Molotow chrome on the grille of my ZZ Top Eliminator ran a bit. I'm assuming that the clear coat is to blame. I used a few mist coats of Testors Enamel Clear Coat for the Eliminator.

Anyone else have this issue?

As I understand Molotow is alcohol based, so I'm not surprised that it gets dulled or even runs when coated with solvent-based clear coat.  I would never dream of doing that.  Water-based acrylic clear (or Future) would probably not affect it much.  Just use Bare Metal Foil my friend! It will never run under any clear coat.

Ohhh, that makes sense ? I did not know that it was alcohol based. Yeah, the Eliminator was built in my pre-BMF days...

I had that problem with black Sharpie that was used to darken panel lines.

Molotow is an ink, not a paint, therefore, most clear coats will dissolve and/or reduce its chrome appearance. I, along with a couple other members here, recommended Alsa Corp's Easy Chrome. Short of tediously mounting parts on racks to send out to a chroming service, Easy Chrome is the best product available. It doesn't need it because it it is 10000% more durable than Molotow, Alclad or any other chrome finish; but, it doesn't dull or lose its reflectivity if clear coated. Sure, it's pricey. It still works out to be less expensive than sending parts to get re-chromed or the anguish created when you watch Molotow Chrome turn into a nasty mess.

Alclad 11 Chrome and Polished Aluminum are also alcohol based. They recommend using their Aqua Gloss Clear over those as a sealer before any topcoat. That may work for the Molotow pen as well.
