I was waiting on decals I ordered 2 weeks ago and I checked to see the status on them so for whatever reason my order was cancelled... Out of frustration I just desided to paint and use the decals in the box... It's way more simple than I had planned but I'm moving on...
disconovaman Posted June 5, 2020 Author Posted June 5, 2020 Got a little more work left on the bed. I'll paint that when I finish smoothing out the body work...
Spottedlaurel Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 I like where you're going with this one, it's excellent what you've done on the arches.
disconovaman Posted June 7, 2020 Author Posted June 7, 2020 Thanks guys! Those fender flares had to go ? I have another one to build. It'll be 4X4 theme and I'll keep the flares for that build... I like the idea of a JDM/Drifting style Chevy Luv as a build too and the flares (painted black) will work for that build as well. The kit decals stop on the fenders and I thought they should carry onto the hood so I used decals from the snow plow GMC to finish the stripes. Also, I pinned the tailgate so it functions now. I have to finish the paint and get moving to final assembly, it wont be long... 20200606_210123.mp4

And I may have one more card up my sleeve in the striping department...? I'll have to see how it looks first... Got the bed painted and the kit's stripe decal on... That tailgate works great with the paint on... just enough friction to keep it closed... I've always liked stock funky striping options on 70's and 80's trucks and cars so I may add some extra colors to the build for an extra kick... Stay tuned!
disconovaman Posted June 8, 2020 Author Posted June 8, 2020 More Stripes ? and an engine in the bed Just for fun! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to glue the bed to the cab to insure those decals line up... The directions indicate that you have to put the decals on with the bed and cab together. I did do that but the bed isn't perfectly in line so glueing it is the easiest fix... The Luv Sport and Luv 4X4 stripe options are really cool. I may do orange and yellow or two tone blue to finish it maybe, we'll see...
slusher Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Very nice work. I like how you build is looking. Real nice wheels also..

They fit perfectly in the Luv tires. The plating is really bright too. I had Polished Centerlines on my Nova back in the day.. I thought this was a retro look (late 80's) and I knew I wasn't using the Western spoke 8 lug wheels. I actually thought about tubbing the luv but it wasn't the look i was going for.
disconovaman Posted June 11, 2020 Author Posted June 11, 2020 My friend and fellow club member sent me these pics of his finished LUV... I think it's a good representation... and the color choice is unique (Testors acrylic metallic bronze). although I think I would've went with boxart yellow with these decals or maybe white... I'm still thinking on the extra stripes on my Luv... Thanks for the continued support... I'm gonna start detailing the interior and chassis so I can get this one done.
disconovaman Posted June 12, 2020 Author Posted June 12, 2020 Went over to my wife's uncles house today and the 4X4 bug bit me lol! I came home and did some playing around with the luv as a 4X4 for fun...

I definitely have an idea on my mind for an OG boxart (white and blue) only lifted 4X4, and leave the flares... Thinking about "Mini van" treatment like what George Barris did to Bob Bond's Sho Luv... I'm a nerd... ? I also have a prostreet with opening doors lined up too...
Spottedlaurel Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 The 4x4 style does look good on it, like you say that'd be the way to go with the flared arches. But with the fantastic work you've done on the arches on this version definitely keep the Centrelines. I have several light truck kits and I'm a bit stuck on ideas for them because of the odd arches they've been given. P.S. I like the one your friend has done. I'd like to try and get one myself, but it doesn't show up with any UK eBay sellers.

It's funny... while I was doing the work I didn't have any desire to convert another one... But I do appreciate the payoff, it's worth the hard work for sure... 6 hours ago, Spottedlaurel said: I have several light truck kits and I'm a bit stuck on ideas for them because of the odd arches they've been given. what kits do you have? The Chevy Luv? I had the Mojave Mule.. well bits and peices of it. It wasn't complete so I traded it away... I liked it... other than the flares but back then I would've never attempted the bodywork. Bummer that Uk ebay hasn't got those yet but I'm sure you can find someone who will ship international...from the states... hopefully ? I haven't seen many of these built yet but I'm waiting for someone to build a JDM style truck from one... That's a good idea for those flares to be left on. And obviously a 4X4 version would be really easy to pull off.

Never yet found a Luv, I'd be reliant on finding an old release and any I've seen have been more than I wanted to pay. Hopefully people will start bringing in the current one. I have a couple of Revell Datsun 4x4 720s (new and old releases of the Snap-Tite kit), Aoshima Datsun 720 Lowrider, MPC Datsun 620 "California Sunshine", AMT Ford Courier stepside (Mazda B1800), AMT Dodge Ram 50 (Mitsubishi L200), Aoshima 1994 Hilux and several Monogram GM and Ford trucks. I really need a Luv and an older Hilux to complete the set! You mentioning this got me looking me on my Flickr account, it reminded me of a few images I've scanned and others from old custom magazines, and my head is now buzzing with ideas......

I like the 66 Wagon. and that color on the Datsun is perfect... Oh and the small block Chevy powered Maserati is cool...
