Wow!

Never seen a Goonybird on floats before, let alone a fully armed bomber version!

Thanks,

-Don.

The US actually built a bomber version of the DC-3/C-47 (sort of, -ish). It was called the B-23 Dragon. Howard Hughes owned a couple.

I always thought the only armed version of the DC-3/C-47 was the AC-47 Spooky (aka Puff the magic dragon) gunship. I did see there were several B-23s built - never heard of it before.

How about one with three turbines?

Looks surprisingly 'right'.

When he was test flying for Armstrong Siddeley, my Dad got to fly this modified DC3 with two Single Mamba propjets:

LEADINGthe TURBOCHARGE

He also got to fly this, a modified Lancastrian (Lancaster bomber derivative) with a couple of Rolls Royce Nene jet engines replacing two of the Merlins:

Lucky man!

I have always had a soft spot for the Gooney Bird, it took me from Bangkok, Thailand to Udorn RTAFB.  Had a chance to work on its comm systems a few times.  War Story (no blah blah blah blah this really happened).  A Lt Col was the assigned pilot for the C-47, his flight was milk runs from base to base in Thailand.  Nothing really exciting just a couple hundred miles from a war zone.  He tired of the ribbing by the fighter pilots at the O-Club, so he showed them the C-47 can do an inside loop and survive.  Needless to say the rest of his time in Thailand he was flying a desk.

Difference between a fairy tale and a war story.  Fairy tale begins "Once upon a time", war story begins "No blah blah blah blah this really happened."
