RichCostello Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Has anyone used the rally stripe hood decals on a 69 Camaro? I'm wondering how they work on the cowl hood? It looks to me like you might have to cut the decals, and paint the sides of the hump the color of the decal.
Plowboy Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 They'll work. It takes some patience and setting solution though.
slusher Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I never had mine stick but the decals was not in great shape!
espo Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I had to use Solvaset, and a lot of it, and the part of the decal near the rear edge of the hood still wanted to fold in a funny way. I was tempted to make a relief cut in the decal but held off and eventually the decal laid down. Lots of Solvaset.
Deuces ll Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I'm also worried about that same problem.... Some of my Revell '69 Z/28 and SS/RS kits are more than 20 years old...???

I'm starting on the convertible now, and would like to use the black rally stripes on a hugger orange car. It just seems to me that with the stripes, being straight, would not end up straight with the extra surface of the sides of the hump in the hood.

It sounds like you're talking about Z/28 stripes, not "rally stripes."
Deuces ll Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Ummmm.... Those are rally stripes.... At least that's what the magazines called them back in the day....

I don't know, they're called "rally stripes" on the instructions, and they're used on a lot of other Chevys from the late 60s-early 70s that aren't Z/28s, so I think rally stripes would be a better term for them.

Deuces ll Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 (edited) Here it is in black and white... And of course, Red... ? This is for the 1968 model year..... Edited September 3, 2020 by Deuces ll
tbill Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Call them what you will, but a generous amount of decal solution and patience will get the stripes on and looking good.

I agree as that is how I have done it in the past. Today if I were building anything with the Cowl Induction Hood I would consider masking off the stripes and spray them. The decals have always been fussy and the white stripes on a dark color really requires two set to look right. Just my opinion , but that's the way I'll be doing them in the future.
RichCostello Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 I think I'll give them a shot. I've got plenty of Tamiya "Mark Fit" decal solution. The decals are over 20 years old, so I don't know how good they'll work anyway. I can always use the hockey stripes, I like them too.
