novadose71 Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 (edited) Drove the 40 minutes to the most local hobby shop that carries MCM today. Grabbed a couple kits and the latest issue. The old guy who owns the place typed the price in on the kits then went to the magazine to find............ no price printed anywhere, on any copy he had either. He didn't know what to do, he looked and looked to no avail. He wound up telling me $3, I said they were usually around $6, so he gave it to me for $5. Thanks for the good deal Gregg but please support my LHS sanity by bringing this to the printers attention Thanks Edited November 8, 2008 by novadose71
Danno Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I encountered the same problem, Novadose, but with a twist. The only shop within 50 miles of me that carries MCM is more into RC and trains. When I tried to buy the "priceless" issue, they were confounded. Then they decided I should pay the same price for MCM as they charge for that other model car magazine, the high-priced spread. I argued, 'no, MCM is $4.50.' They said it couldn't be since it's twice as thick as SAnoE and that one is $5.95. I lost. So I paid a premium (otherwise no MCM for me). So, screw'em. I'm breaking out the checkbook and the subscription form.
Zoom Zoom Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I'm not sure if it's still an issue (no pun intended), but when buying individual copies at the LHS it's been difficult sometimes because the cashier doesn't know how to enter the price because there was no bar code to scan. Won't be an issue (sorry ) for me soon as I'm again subscribing to MCM vs. buying them individually on my trips to the LHS
Harry P. Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Subscribe, everyone! You'll pay less per issue and have them come to you instead of having to go hunt them down! (PS: the missing price on the last issue was a typo... or is that an "un typo"?)
Harry P. Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Oh, and remember that "carrot on a stick" deal... If the subscription numbers go up enough, MCM goes to 12 issues/year instead of 9... with no increase in the subscription rate! Who else is gonna give you a deal like that? Who's looking out for modelers? MCM is, that's who!

Who's looking out for modelers? MCM is, that's who! Hey Harry! If Gregg offers again to pay your way to Atlanta, c'mon...you've gotta come visit our show! Come party like a rock star I did my part...let's hope that Fed Ex envelope of subscriptions from the show gets to Colorado soon as Gregg promised. Any chance of a barcode for the cover for those hobby shops that use that system for the single-copy buyer? I see the latest couple issues don't have a barcode. There's still a lot of "closet builders" out there that don't come to our meetings, our shows, nor subscribe.
Lyle Willits Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 (edited) Come on guys. Get a grip. Why wouldn't anyone subscribe. If you buy them at a store 9 times per year, that comes to about $42.48 with sales tax, plus the gas needed to drive to the stores where you buy them means you are spending WAY OVER $50.00. I've been subscribing for MANY years, way way back when it was Plastic Fanatic. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG BY SUBSCRIBING. Edited November 9, 2008 by Lyle Willits

I wondered that myself. How about it, Gregg?
lordairgtar Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Gregg, I think you need to send Danno and Novadose their money.
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 What's goin' on... I had the same problem today!
my80malibu Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 In the issue I have the #134 the pages got tossed around and went from pg 24 trailer build to pg 27-28 ferrari then back to pg 25-26 trailer on to pg 31-32 Harrys work then back to pg 29 ferrari then harrys work finishes up after pg 36 Definately interesting reading it a good thing I dont cuss anymore Gabriel.
novadose71 Posted November 10, 2008 Author Posted November 10, 2008 Gregg, I think you need to send Danno and Novadose their money. Absolutely NOT necessary, I still got a deal. I really don't pay attention to the price when I buy them, I just assumed it had to be aroung $6, most magazines I get anymore are up there, and wouldn't you know it, the best one is $4.50. ;) Besides, I've always used the trip for the mag as a reason to go to this particular hobby shop, you know, "support your LHS" and all. I've been going there for 4or5 years to get it, and he keeps past issues on the rack, so it's only every couple of months or so. But..........I might as well subscribe anyway, I think the old lady is on to me and my scheme.
BigGary Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Pleasant surprise for me last week. I checked out the new Revell '68 Charger on line, $13.99 or something. that's cool! Shipping charge was not cool, $10, o.k. $9.99 for the picky. I spent ine dollars worth of gas, went to LHS, paid $19 plus tax. Still saved 3 bucks. Support Local Hobby Shop! Unfortunately, this one doesn't have MCM. Subscription coming soon if I get 12 issues for price of 9. Gary

I thought it was pathetically funny, another reminder of what a great bargain MCM is, and just another stimulus to re-subscribe. I'm good. (Well, I'm great, they say, but you know how girls can lie!)
