Goodwrench3 Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 (edited) Found this today and thought I'd post it. Probably old news to most here, but the instructions for the "stiffener bar" in the Monogram kits is very vague as to where it attaches to the corner of the cage. I was happy to find this. MarkJ Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 I noticed that myself. Very vague indeed. I probably didnt do mine right, back when I did one of those models. Thanks for posting that.
Goodwrench3 Posted October 14, 2020 Author Posted October 14, 2020 Yeah it's pretty vague -- in looking at some of the build photos, I've seen that bar attached anywhere from at the floor of the chassis all the way up to the top side bar of the roll cage. So it's confused others too ?
randyc Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 When I was building a lot of these NASCAR models, I was also working on a weekly racer that was a former 80s Busch car. Studying the cage in it helped me see where this bar attaches, but that photo shows it perfectly. That should help a lot of folks. The car in that photo is missing the "petty bar" from the Monogram kit. It may not have been in the rules yet though. Not sure when it came to be. I always wondered why the bar coming up from the floor was slanted.
wrenchr Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 Petty bar came later in the 80's I think. After the Daytona wreck.
DrKerry Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Always wondered myself where it went!! Good info

Expand There is usually a piece of tubing that runs from the upper right front corner of the cage and meets up with that stiffener that goes down to (through actually) the floor pan and is supposed to meet up with the X member in the chassis under the floor pan.
