Modelbuilder Mark Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 True, all valid points. I was just thinking if they had the molds and they were not modified, then the outlay should be minimal, and who would think that the Schwinn bikes or some of the other items they have chose lately, like the dog pound show rod would have more appeal that the aforementioned kits.
Tom Geiger Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 Why don’t old kits get reissued? Many factors beyond the kits appeal and potential of getting stuck with a few thousand copies. And I’m not the foremost expert! Preorders- manufacturers put the new kits out to their largest buyers. A certain number of preorders make the issue a safe bet. Company bandwidth- They only have so many project managers to handle individual projects. Note with Round 2, a lot of their people are working on projects... sci-fi genre, diecast etc with much more potential.. anything that they can get into big box stores goes to the head of the class! Funding - They have to work within their budgets, both overall and individual projects. No doubt there is a recipe of how much can be spent on the various functions needed to bring a kit to market. Production Scheduling - The factories in China are busy and only do many slots are available to the kit companies. So choose your product wisely! Overall ability of the market to consume product - can’t bring more SKUs or volume of kits to market than the wholesalers and buyers can consume! Potential of getting paid - Every buyer such as big box, wholesalers, retailers and mom and pops are on different payment schedules. Nothing like selling 20,000 kit run to companies on net 90 to net 120, to kill your cash flow! There’s a lot more to the business that a lot of us understand. So when you say “this kit is a no brainer”, it just may be disastrous to a manufacturer!
bobthehobbyguy Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 Thanks Tom. Definitely a lot of factors to be consider when reissuing. kits. Although I'm sure that if there are molds in reasonable shape that an effort to use them will be made if it makes financial sense.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 SO this one is more expensive, but closer to what the opened ones sell for. I had this kit, and when I tried to build it as a kid, it was beyond my skill level at that point. I packed it away, and it got lost in a move. I wish I had it again, but cannot justify the cost, even for an open one. https://mail.yahoo.com/d/folders/1/messages/AMduTspmwur1X7tujQSnaK-Bwfc

bobthehobbyguy Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 That is truly a crazy price. Not something I'd spend that much money on.
