Jon Haigwood Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I would like to build a replica of my cousins 66 Mercury Comet Cyclone . Is this doable ? All I can find is a 65 and a 67, both are a ways from a 66. Thanks for advice and or info
Mark Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 AMT made one in '66, good luck finding one though. You might try looking for a worn or damaged promo model, those often sell cheaper than a poorly built kit.
gtx6970 Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Doesnt seem like all that long ago, a promo was cheap. May or may not be the case today. And Agreed,,,one of them will be your best option
iamsuperdan Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Good luck! I was after one of these for years. Finally lucked out with an excellent trade here. From what I can tell, there was one promo kit made and one actual kit made...back in the late 60s. Never been repopped. if they do turn up on eBay, they are not cheap. I was hunting for one so I can build a replica of a car my dad drove when I was growing up in the 80s.

Never been repopped. 1965-66, to be exact. Not sure if by "repopped" you mean reissued or resin-copied. The molds became the '67, which quickly became the AWB funny car which was recently reissued. I don't know if anyone has ever reproed the kit in resin, but I believe that at least the body was available in funny car form. Might still be. ETA: Competition Resins shows a '66 body. Might be reworkable into a stocker, maybe: http://www.compresins.com/site/751597/product/CR-4005 Edited November 4, 2020 by Snake45
gtx6970 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Model haus used to make a resin conversion. I would have to ck. But i might have one
Jon Haigwood Posted November 4, 2020 Author Posted November 4, 2020 I found a couple promos but my pockets aren't that deep. Not sure how well the Comp Resins would convert to a factory car. I may do some comparison between the 66 and the 67 the rear body lines are similar.
