Nick F40 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Supposedly I heard from Speed Report that it is back on for the '09 season. They got over the finanacial hump from the businesses around there and may be making some changes. I'm definetly happy for that, now all I need is to see what the new rides are like. Senna back at it?......Bruno, I hope he races along with Lucas Di Grassi http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2008/06/13/cana...t-be-necessary/ http://www.formulatours.com/GP_PackageType...GrandPrixCanada
58 Impala Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Now all they have to do is bring back the US grand prix at Long Beach.

Nick F40 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) Hate to burst the bubble but it was anounced this morning that it was off. http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2008/11/17/...fficially-axed/ Huge loss for F1 and the North American fans. That is one of the things I don't like about F1, FIA...Ecclestone, they can't make a decision!!! They did just announce it was back on....... Yeah a huge loss........ they are underway for winter testing in Catalunya, for the aero changes. http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2008/11/17/...y-in-barcelona/ The 09 specs....are different, weird wings http://www.formula1.com/gallery/testing/2008/331.html Go Sebastian Loeb! More on it, http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-...-attempt-fails/ poor Ecclestone http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-...p-rescue-fails/ Well it looks like Kyle Busch was going to test an F1 car, and he actually wants to do it!! That's why I like him, he's got common sense. http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-...for-kyle-busch/
robertw Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Heard on the media this weekend that Bernie apparently wanted a guarantee of $175 million over a five year period and the mayor of Montreal was thinking it should be something more like $50 million. The Montreal organizers were also unable to find a major private sponsor to help defray costs. The mayor blamed Bernie for being unwilling to bend and commented that he guessed Bernie didn't realize that there was a world wide financial crisis going on. The race is clearly done for for '09 but they wouldn't speculate after that. My guess is that we'll never see it back in Canada and that Bernie will line up some other country that has never had a history or passion for auto racing but has mega bucks to hand over. I've been a dedicated fan and TV watcher of F1 for years but this just about does it for me. I'll just start sleeping in instead of getting up at 5am to catch it live, something that Bernie doesn't want the European fans to have to do but doesn't seem concerned that North American fans have to do. (I'm not bitter.......I'm not bitter......) Rob W
Zoom Zoom Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Until Bernie and Max are gone and F1 returns to North America, I'll be sleeping in on Sundays. I should have just quit for good when I threatened back at the Indy debacle.

935k3 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 (edited) Don't worry Bernie will suffer, He is going through a divorce. The payoff will probably dwarf the McCartney settlement. He says no matter what he will run F1 forever( Iguess he thinks he's immortal). It's a shame to see traditional races disappear. it will soon be known as the Pacific rim series. Although the Chinese race is not doing well, they had to invite school kids to fill the stands and some gates were letting people in for free, ticket prices were only 45-55 euros. For all it's problems it still far more interesting than NASCAR's stupid version of bumper cars. Edited November 18, 2008 by 935k3
Dragon7665 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Hey by any chance, does anyone know when the Final Molson 500 in Vancouver BC was??? I have been trying to find info on that for sometime, as I remember going by the track in Vancouver when I was younger, but I never got the chance to catch a race..... The last time I was up there in '02, I saw plenty of BillBoards and such advertising it, but I could never find a date that it was going on.....
