Anyone have any experience with Redline Restorations on ebay?  They have listings for many resin trans kits and there are a couple I might be interested in.  Photos look ok, but they're photos.

Thanks

Well, I thought someone would chime in. I believe there was discussion about his items before, but I could be wrong.

A few years ago I had a couple items from him, they were ok.

But I read feedback on eBay from other customers, because he casts the Corvette Summer Vette, which I recently purchased, and I must say it's pretty nice. And yes, I posted pics of it on here already.

Hope this helps.

I don't have personal experience with him. However, reading comments on facebook from guys who have purchased from him, they say the bodies look good from afar but they are very thick up close and require a lot of work (such as sanding) to get right. So if you really want the piece and are willing to massage the bodies to your liking, go for it. I think his prices are too expensive for the quality.

Below is a photo of a '79 Malibu from Redline. I'm not displeased, realizing that work will be needed on it. The selling point for me was the separate chassis parts.  I should note, this body is not the current version Redline is selling. I can take more photos if you like.

Could someone post a link to their store or one of their auctions? I really suck at searching eBay by seller. It hardly ever works.

redlinerestorations2015-8 Found it.

One kit I'm looking at from this seller is the 77 Caprice two door.  Anyone have any comments on this one?

If you haven't already, go to the Redline Resin website.  There are high resolution pics available there of the Caprice kit.

The kit grille seems off kilter to me. That's the only critical comment I have currently.

I saw the '73 ElCamino on the website and I remembered a discussion about a recaster "modifying" another caster's work and claiming it as his own. I do remember it came up a few times on here and I am not saying that it is true or false.

Looking at his stuff, some of it is obviously copied from out of production kits (wish he hadn't copied the '76 Caprice chassis with catalytic converter for his 71-74 kits). On the other stuff like the '84 Caprice, wagons, the Suburban, etc, I was wondering if they are from his masters or if they are recasts.

I messaged him last night with a question about a kit and a body. Got a response right away, but he did not answer my very simple "this or that" question.

After reading these attached threads I may end up passing on the Caprice.  The $100 price seemed really too high, but it's the only game in town (that I know of) for a downsized early Caprice and I have a special reason for wanting to do one. I'm not nuts on doing resin in the first place but would possibly take the job of doing this if it was maybe half the price.   I guess I can just wait.

Thanks for all the replies!
