TransAmMike Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Just my luck, or lack of good judgement, applied decal stripes on model and they are crooked. Tried to remove with Micro Sol and they might as well be painted on. Anyone have a magic solution (litterally LOL) to get these off. They are over acrylic laquer clear.
espo Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Maybe some blue painters tape. Disclaimer: There is a chance that it may damage the paint as well depending.

They ARE "painted on" now. My go-to decal removal method is scraping with a fingernail under hot running water. I can't promise it will work, but it might be your best shot. Might as well start accepting the idea that you'll have to strip and repaint. If you luck out and don't have to, it'll be a good day. Good luck!

What really sucks is all the trim foiling is done as well as all the windows are in. Grrrrrrr!!!
Pete75 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 I've done it a couple of times using Micro Set (the blue one) and either a lolly stick or toothpick, bevelled to make a "soft blade". It takes a LONG time & you needn't expect the Micro Set to magically lift the decal, but with patience & care it can be done... eventually! Once done I refinished the acrylic laquer surface with fine sanding & polishing compound. Good luck!?
TransAmMike Posted February 17, 2021 Author Posted February 17, 2021 A lot of good info Casey, will give some of those responses a try. Thanks And Pete, I tried the Micro Set to no avail.
Casey Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Best to start with this, adding the search term for whatever you are wanting to find out: "decal removal", "best primer", "How to cut open doors", etc.:
Tom Geiger Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 In the past I've put decals on straight, but knocked them askey with the brush used to apply the setting solution. Maybe that's what happened here. What decals do you need now?

Will definately measure and mark with tape next time. Anyway, it's the gold GT350H stripes.
TransAmMike Posted February 17, 2021 Author Posted February 17, 2021 (edited) And when all else fails (I tried all the suggestions) this is how you do it. Quite a lot hours of prep, paint, foiling, installing windows over several days shot to hell. Oh well. Edited February 17, 2021 by TransAmMike
