Andrew D the Jolly Roger Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 Trying to do an accurate replica of Daisy Duke's GTX. The interior is black, but not sure if the one(s) used in the show had wood panelling on the interior door panels. Google *seems* to show it on every GTX interior I've found, but the few interior shots on the TV show *seem* to show only black where the wood panel would be. I don't know if the panelling was optional or standard. Compare the two following shots, one I took from the show (photographing the TV screen) and the other of an anonymous GTX I found via Google. Am I right that the Hollywood example has no wood panelling, or was it standard on all of them and it's just the lighting hiding it? You can see the debated area just under the chrome trim.
Andrew D the Jolly Roger Posted April 15, 2021 Author Posted April 15, 2021 Thank you....so probably I should assume wood panelling that's just too much in shadow to show up in the first pic?
CapSat 6 Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 The F&F kit comes with the door panel that looks like the one up top. The old Monogram '71 Satellite comes with one that looks more like the one in the ad picture. It looks like bucket seat cars got either of the door panels above.
Andrew D the Jolly Roger Posted April 15, 2021 Author Posted April 15, 2021 Well, I'm using the Revell kit (yellow bodied release), and the interior padding seems to match Daisy's car....including the angled trim you can see running along the door panel, same as in the second photo.

According to this brochure picture this is the Satellite Sebring interior in the left picture.
Andrew D the Jolly Roger Posted April 15, 2021 Author Posted April 15, 2021 Okay, true....except in my second pic you can just make out the "GT" of "GTX" on the right side on the dashboard wood paneling....
440 Dakota Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 (edited) from everything I've read for years, that second car they used in the Cali shows was a 71 Satellite Sebring plus, not a GTX or RR the Satellite Sebring Plus could be ordered quite loaded up with options, in fact if you google around a bit there are pics of her car having the round Ralleye gauge dash which would have gotten you the wood grain panels like the GTX, look at this pic you can make out the trim around the round gauges also of note is the dash insert above the glove box the vents indicate it was an A/C car, also note the rear view mirror has been removed for filming Edited April 16, 2021 by 440 Dakota
tim boyd Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 Guys....other than badging, the 1971 GTX and Satellite Sebring Plus bucket seats and interior door panels were identical. The GTX used the round rallye gauges instrument panel as standard equipment, however. The earlier picture brochure orange/black interior image posted above was the Road Runner interior, which was not as plush as the GTX interior. Having said that, I am not even remotely expert on the cars in that TV series, and as we've learned since, often those cars were modified to various degrees from factory stock. However, the dark TV picture/image showing the driver's side door panel is likely the GTX/Satellite Sebring Plus door panel, not the Road Runner. Good luck with the project....sounds like a cool idea! TIM
CapSat 6 Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 My call would be that Daisy's 1971 car was probably a Satellite Sebring Plus, painted up to look a little like a Road Runner. That was the top model 2-door in the Satellite range (other than the GTX). It's roughly equivalent to the Charger SE. The serial #'s started with "RP" ("R" for Plymouth Intermediate, "P" for "premium price code"). I owned two 1971 Satellite Sebring Plus cars. One had a 318 engine, Amber Sherwood Metallic with a black vinyl (full) roof covering, green bucket seat interior with auto console shift. Power steering but manual drum brakes all around. That was my college car. The other had a 383 2 barrel, Autumn Bronze Metallic, with a black vinyl canopy top, black bucket seat interior with NO console and a column shift. It had power steering and power disc brakes. Both of them had AC, the Rallye dash clusters (round gauges), bucket seats and the GTX-style upper door skins. I think the SSP and GTX more or less shared interiors. Bucket seats and Rallye gauges were standard on both models, but consoles were optional. All Satellite models, except for the Road Runner and GTX, got the standard "flat" hood. That is to say that Satellite Sebring Plus cars never got Performance Hoods (the non-functional "twin scoop" or "Air Grabber" hoods) from the factory. I have looked at some pics online- regarding the rocker panels, it looks like all three styles (Road Runner/ Satellite thin, Sebring Plus- broad/ flat, and GTX, ribbed) show up on old pics of the car(s). You could either use the GTX rocker panel trim, or replace it with broad, flat pieces of sheet plastic, if you see those in pics of Daisy's car.
Andrew D the Jolly Roger Posted April 17, 2021 Author Posted April 17, 2021 (edited) Thanks guys, VERY useful info, all. Ron, can't believe I missed that shot of the interior, it's from "Gold Fever", second episode of the second season, in which the car is even used for a jump (contrary to the belief that the car never did much until its demise). Thank you! As far as removed mirrors, yep, I've seen that's common for Hollyweird, makes sense that it increases visibility either of the actors within or of the action outside. It's a now-you-see-it-now-you-don't thing, as vehicles like the General sometimes had it for regular driving shots, but not for the closeups. I'm still undecided as to whether I'll put it in this one...I didn't put one on Daisy's Jeep, as it seemed never to be there on the show. Trying to balance reality with show fantasy. Also noticed on a closeup shot of the car with a flat tire that it had the flat/unribbed rocker panel trim. Haven't been able to discern anything else yet. gtx6970 Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 As far as i know . The wood grain door panels and dash trim were standard on the GTX trim level.. Question is......was Daisys car an actual GTX? I seriously doubt it. . Most likely a car thrown together from various sources.
