Just got an email from MegaHobby.com about the new ROG Shelby kit. This one looks awfully familiar and I was wondering if this is the old Sunny kit that's been reboxed. I have that kit and from what I see of its contents (from one on eBay), this looks for all the world like that old tooling.

While not an exact replica of the FIA car, it's better designated as a 289 version as the box art showed, as we all know the 427 cars were MUCH beefier in the fenders and tires. Also, I thought any of the Cobras that came out in '62 were actually 260 cars and not the 289's, as that would have been a little later.

I'm not totally versed in all things Cobra, but this one is interesting. Some tweaks here and there would be needed to make this one correct, but certainly the basic "bones" are there.

Anyone know for sure about the kit's origins?

That kit looks like the old Sunny kit to me.  Many of the parts are cribbed from the later issues of the AMT 260 Cobra, even the tires.

Isn't this one listed as 1/25 scale?  That would be the tipoff right there; if the "new" Revell were to tool an all-new kit, they would do it in 1/24 to be consistent with their ex-Monogram 427 variants.

The Sunny kit isn't awful, but it isn't 100% accurate as any one variant.  I'm not sure I have one now...I'd pick them up cheap, then someone would find out I had it and offer me stupid money for it!

That one has been around for a little while. I bought one for my Cobra collection but never opened it . There is more info on this somewhere in this topic and it seems it is thought to be based on the old Sunny kit. I can not confirm or deny that.

If t's not the Sunny kit it's a dead ringer. AMT289/260 chassis, engine, and interior with a 427 Cobra body. Weird hybrid of things.

It's the Sunny kit it actually came out nearly a year ago in August of 2020. I wonder if MegaHobby is stuck sitting on a pile of them and that's why they're suddenly emailing about a year old release.

You'd have to dig a bit in here, but this kit and it contents were discussed at length when it came out.
