Phildaupho Posted July 8, 2021 Author Posted July 8, 2021 A friend had a Danbury Mint Hirohata so I could not resist comparing it to my model. The DM is slightly larger so may be 1/24. It is an incredible model. The gaps are amazingly tight. The shape of the rear fenders are more accurate as are the window sizes. I do however prefer my more greenish shade of sea-foam.
randyc Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Very nice build. I went the easy route and bought the DM diescast. That's my holy grail car.
Phildaupho Posted January 8, 2022 Author Posted January 8, 2022 The Hirohata Merc is going to be auctioned Saturday January 15, 2022. Check out 73 photos of what the car looks like now. It is going to be interesting to find out how much it goes for and where it ends up. I am going to try to watch on-line. 1951 Hirohata Mercury Custom | S152 | Kissimmee 2022 (mecum.com)
alan barton Posted January 9, 2022 Posted January 9, 2022 Wow, I missed this the first time you posted it but this is really something exceptional. There is so much pressure on getting it right when you tackle something as iconic as the Hirohata Merc. I like yours significantly better than the DM. Don't have a problem with DM, have four of their models in my collection, but yours just works. Magnificent! Cheers Alan

Cheers Alan Thanks Alan - I bought my first Danbury Mint model recently - an Auburn Speedster - a car I have always admired. I started building an Auburn model from a Lindberg re-issue of the Pyro list. It was such a poor kit that I ended up throwing it in the garbage can.
