Dutch Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 (edited) So I have this old IPMS USA 2007 decal kicking around with markings for two Huntington Beach PD cruisers (not even sure what type vehicle as I do not have the instructions). Then as I was walking through my LHS recently, I saw they had the Revell 1/25 '71 Ford Bronco kit. I was mildly interested. When I searched for Huntington Beach Police cruisers on the net, I found their annual report from 2015 which included various photos of old patrol cars, including this one below of a Ford Bronco (p.11). So, now I have to build it, right!? However, further search on the net reveals nothing. Does anyone in Orange County, CA have any photos of the HBPD Bronco (looks like #4292) that they would be willing to share? (Link to my project on Scalemates.) http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/uploads/monthly_2019_08/Huntington_Beach_CA_Police_Cruiser_Ford_Bronco.jpg.f086722fd77cfd81ca4da97a5f33d190.jpg Here is a scan of the HBPD area of the decal. It looks like I could use the door shields, and perhaps the b&w roof and gold side fleet numbers (fictitious, of course as I cannot read the number in the above photo.) But I was really wanting to use the gold HBP titles as well. The license plate is the wrong style, so I will make my own. I will have to source or scratch a spotlight, roof rack and light bar with horizontal lights and siren / speaker. Probably put a whip antenna on the rear bumper / rear fender. Any help with photos would be appreciated. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/uploads/monthly_2019_08/000.JPG.3bddbdf17e70ddc068f65a621e8dce6c.JPG I found an eBay vendor who offers 1/24 & 1/25 emergency vehicle parts, including the old 1960s red beacons and siren for the roof rack, plus radios with mic. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/uploads/monthly_2020_01/001.JPG.83c96e57828a71d790b37ab619550979.JPG And I also found Gofer Racing 1/24 generic gold letters and numbers for the correct serial number. To make it easy, I have decided that the serial number will be 4292, so I can use the black roof numbers 92 from the IPMS sheet. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/uploads/monthly_2021_01/002.JPG.dde9f45ffcc68b82f20efe80caf0a870.JPG Thanks for looking. av405 Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 This is the closest I could find. Some of the elements of the light bar appear to be similar, but with some differences as well. Good luck with your project!
1972coronet Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 R-Body Gran Fury mislabelled as a " 1979 Pontiac Grand Le Mans " . Cool article otherwise . Have you tried contacting H.B.'s historical society ? Do you remember Wimpi's Burgers ?

Must be at least '73 from the grille. Yes the roof light rack does look very similar to the Bronco rack, perhaps just transferring from one vehicle to the next. I bet the Bronco is a '69, so the Scouts replaced the Broncos, then? Edited June 22, 2021 by Dutch

Oldcarfan27 Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 I like this one! Looks like you could use the wheels and tires from the Crew Chief Blazer to match.
GLMFAA1 Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 The light bar looks 'shop' built. The Scout bar has a mechanical siren, the bronco looks electronic speaker. If you can find the old JoHan parts the 'tin cans' are there and the mechanical siren. The electronic siren can be had from the 70 ford police car. The Baja bronco might have the right tires. Your gold letter might be in some railroad decals. greg
Aaronw Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Hard to tell with the glare but it looks like the Bronco might have Police above the seal, just heavily washed out due to the glare. There is some sort of lettering there and it is of the correct length for POLICE, that is not just blank white door panel above the HB. Neat project.

Makes sense, there is "POLICE" on the door of the Scout. The lettering could've been reflective gold and the sun light washed it out.

I had missed the "POLICE" on the Bronco door, but upon closer inspection, yes it does appear to be there. I can easily do it with the IPMS decals. Here are pics of the radios, roof beacons and siren that I obtained. I need an inside shot to determine the correct radio setup. I emailed the Huntington Beach Historical Society last week, but have heard nothing. I think I will go with the Revell kit tires and rims, just paint them black. What started out as a simple project is quickly turning into a mountain. Thanks again for the help. Kind regards, Dutch Edited June 28, 2021 by Dutch Spelling
Dutch Posted June 28, 2021 Author Posted June 28, 2021 I can construct the roof rack from styrene strip & rod, but still need to locate a driver's side spotlight. Anyone have a clue where to get one?

Dutch Posted February 22, 2022 Author Posted February 22, 2022 First, thanks to Greg for the spotlight and to everyone for your observations and suggestions. I have re-emailed the Huntington Beach Historical Society soon after the new year, but have heard nothing. I think I am just going to wing it and do the best I can. Kind regards, Dutch
mr moto Posted February 22, 2022 Posted February 22, 2022 Huntington Beach? Shouldn't it be equipped with a surfboard?
stavanzer Posted February 23, 2022 Posted February 23, 2022 Good Luck on the Build, Sir. It looks like a great idea.
Dutch Posted January 30, 2024 Author Posted January 30, 2024 Well it's been two years and I still do not have any further photos of the Huntington Beach Police Bronco. So I have re-emailed the Huntington Beach Historical Society soon after the new year, but have heard nothing yet. I think I am just going to wing it and do the best I can. Kind regards, Dutch
