curt raitz Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Soliciting some help and advice from any of you who have built these kits. The only Ferrari street cars I've built are of the Japanese ilk...Tamiya, Fujimi, etc These kits look clean, simple with good detail and minimal flash. Does everything fit and can I expect all 4 wheels to 'touch the asphalt' when complete?
Merkur XR4Ti Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 they all could use lowering Bingo. I've built the 599, the 612, and the Superamerica. The Superamerica could definitely stand to be lowered, as when compared to Fujimi's 575M it's much too high. The 612 went together well, but watch for a chassis warp which seems to be a common issue with these kits. The 599 went together well with no problems but could also stand to be lowered a smidge.
Exotics_Builder Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 All the models, excluding the 360, are good and build well. The 360's are not worth the money. The rest are. If you're a real stickler for detail, you can bash the 430 or 599 with the Fujimi kits. A bit of work, but doable.
CAL Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 That seems to be a Revell thing... maybe a model thing in general. They all could use a little lowering.
curt raitz Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 thanx for the information... I was studying the directions (yep, i read them) and playing with the parts of the 599 lowering the ride height should be fairly simple... where is that razor saw...?
Zoom Zoom Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 They're pretty simple to lower, at least the Superamerica was..all I did was whittle down the big axle stub so that the wheel assembly could be glued in a lower position. There's plenty of material to whittle away and still have a bit of a stub to make the glue joint stronger. I used custom wheels on my 612, and had the chassis warp problem too. The 360 Modena isn't good; just spend the money on the Tamiya Modena and never look back. The others are good enough and so much less expensive than the Japanese kits that if you have a good eye and building skills you'll have a nice finished model.
