evilone Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Anybody we know? NO Me kill someone ...................Never.................Wait there was that one time..............Did i say that out loud............... LOL
CB Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009  Greetintgs from Mars or thereabouts. Moving right along........ Started fabbin' up blower for SLWKIRLISY 4banger. More in progresso pics in my fotki thingee: http://public.fotki.com/V866/crazy-cars-by-cb/page11.html Dat 4banger is getting BIG! Here's some in progresso shots of the air holes being added to the blower house. I reallys got into this here portion of the program, drillin' and tappin' them innards shafts into das blower. Used the finest of sprue I could find for SLWKIRLAY. Founded some baby pics of the QWIRrly dude........ aint he cute?! Now he's all growd up, green, mean, and anxoius to get his 4banger bangin'.
Raul_Perez Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 That blower is looking pretty good, CB!! I think that I could have done without seeing the baby pics. Later,
CB Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 Thanks Raul, I's havin' a blast with this here blower. Can't wait to be paintin' it, and comin' up with some kinda belt fer it ........speakin' of paint, methinks ol' SKWIRLY seen yer Raptor in it's green skin, and he be tryin' to talk me into stayin' in his green skin, too. Came home from a gruelling 5k and ol' SKWIRLLY weres jabbering 'bout him needing a scoop fer dat blower, so... Started out with a green cap ofr'n a green felt tip marker, but trashed it in the fabbing processso, so grabbed me a poiple one and it all worked out. Back of blower, front of scoop..........??? Dat aint right, but it sure am SKWIRLY fRONT of back of............Oh, never mind me. Blower & scoop assembly sittin' comfy likes whiles the 'weld' sets up. Turned my tension to lower parts of the 4banger. Coverem up plate fer where the distributor/magneto gonna be poppin' out the blockage. Just cuttin' thin pieces of sprue and a li'l disc of styreene, dump a buncha goo on the plate and add the pieces. Hopefuellie paint will help hide the gooeyness Added distributor/mag shaft housing to das plate, and had to cut up one my credit cards to seal the bottom of the shaft. Ol' SLWKIRLY's 4banger caint wait fer to get mo' parts on 'im. Looks like I's gonna hafta visit me LHS again fer more dem teeny weeny bolts
Scott Colmer Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Maybe it was a good thing that little bug couldn't take the heat. Skwirly is wayyyy better. Keep fabbin' Too fun to follow. Scott
CB Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Ruff cut out distributor/mag drive cover plate. Cover plate all machined up & ready for test fit. Fits block oakey doakey. Started fabbin' up pulleys for blower and generator. These here for the generator, made out of '37 Chebby stock hubcaps. Blower pulley made from chrome inner wheel/backing plates from the Chebby. Big hex nut fabbed outa baby SKWIRLY's body parts that were cut away. Gonna be one SKWIRLY belt setup. Generator gets fabbed up next so I can start putting pulleys in alignment. SKWIRLY's air cooled 4banger way out back.
Raul_Perez Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 (edited) CB, It looks like that little 4 banger is almost ready to ignite in a foray of sights (if she comes apart) and sounds (if she doesn't) only previously heard by the likes of people like Nicolas Cugnot, Gottlieb Daimler, Louis Renault, Henry Ford and Karl Benz! Make sure that you're wearing safety glasses and a flack jacket when you fire that rascal up for the first time!! Later, Edited March 17, 2009 by Raul_Perez
CB Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 CB, It looks like that little 4 banger is almost ready to ignite in a foray of sights (if she comes apart) and sounds (if she doesn't) only previously heard by the likes of people like Nicolas Cugnot, Gottlieb Daimler, Louis Renault, Henry Ford and Karl Benz! .........Make sure that you're wearing safety glasses and a flack jacket when you fire that rascal up for the first time!! Later, Yeah, Raul. Thought crossed my mind once or twiced bout how cool 'twoulda been to fab this here 4 banger up outa brass & glo-plugs, etc , but das plastic is doing me just fine. Methinks ol' SKWIRLY kinda had some idea 'bout his 4banger doin' some serious bangin', so he suggested we keep it as far away from the driver as possible ---dat's why it's so waaaaaay back there
Tony T Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 You're just looking like you're having a whole ton of fun with this build...That is some way cool VW pick-em up...with a ton of attitude! Awesome scratchbuilding, just awesome!
CB Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 Howdy dudes .......good day at the bench fabbin' up more parts fer the SLWKIRL's 4banger Getting a little intense here with all the pulleys fer the blower & the generator (don't really know if'n a generator is actually needed, but SKWIRLY wanted one) Looked thru a couple parts boxes and used two outer front wheel/tire halves from the Lindy 25T for fabbin' up the big generator pulley, and wacked out another one of dem little ol' hex nuts to secures it on the shaft. Bit of a tight fit, but did manage to squeeze dat big ol' generator in between the block and them tubers. Whiles them generator parts weres setting up, turned me tensions to lining up the pulley fer the blower, and started fabbin' another pulley up. Since dat pulley gonna be waaaaay out there, had to reinforce the shaft housing, so wacked out some gussets and welded 'em up. Cleaned up the welds a bits and got to finishin' fabbin' the blower pulley. Got pulley on the shaft, but it aint secured, so .......... naturlly, fabbed up another nut fer the SKWIRL. And thar she be, more like a bolt......... whatever, it's a hex headed pulley holder-on-er and it works fer me & the SKWILRY dude. Oakley doakeley! We's ready fer some bolts!! Comin' alongs nicely. All them bolts installed with some superduper lockem up stuff, and then torqued to .015 footpounds Mebbe I can finally starts painting some
James W Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Looking great so far!!! I just took apart our old printer and it had a nifty cogged belt to run the ink jets side to side. Didn't see if you are looking for one and maybe it would not be the right size, but I thought i would throw it out there anyway.

I'd take my printer apart too........tempting.......but it still works mighty fine, so I'll hafta keep my eyeballs peeled fer an old one. The gears been turning in me head 'bout the belts anyhows--pretty sure I have some foam sheet I got from Michaels that I'm thinking of trying, especially fer the Vbelt fer the gernerator. Might be too thick fer the blower belt, but mebbe if'n I cuts cogs in it, hmmmmm
