Steve H Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Nice to see you back at the bench Roger. Hope all is well with your Mom.
maydaymike Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Regarding the gas tanks, from 73-80, Chevy and GMC trucks with only one tank were mounted on the right side. 81-up were switched to the driver's side. Dual tanks were available all years. I'm not familiar with the MPC kit history, and not sure what year the kit was for it's first release, but if the bed and frame date prior to '81, the passenger side tank is correct.

That makes sense Mike! The first one I recall is the '79. I can now understand why it is the way it is. Still, it would have been nice if they had fixed it. I think I'll scribe in a gas door on the right side and call it good.
Plowboy Posted February 27, 2022 Author Posted February 27, 2022 Thanx guys! I got the old Chevy in some color now! The body is Tamiya Red Brown. The interior is Tamiya Light Sand. Every time I paint a stepside or flareside, I remember why I don't like painting them! So many nooks and crannies to try to paint! I'm thinking this model will just get a good coat of clear and done. No way I want to polish out the bed! I'll foil the badge on the fender, shoot another coat of paint and then the clear. 2
Plowboy Posted February 28, 2022 Author Posted February 28, 2022 I did a quick mockup and no, I still haven't even primered the chassis yet. All of a sudden, it seems like the wheels no longer suit the truck. Guessing it's the brown color? So, I grabbed this set of Rallies that I had modified from a Monogram '76 Chevy. I removed the centers from the rims and glued them to smaller rims. I also found a set of tires from the AMT '80 Toyota snap kit. These suit it much better IMO. 2
Chariots of Fire Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 That last adjustment did the trick. Now the cab and bed line up where they should. Good show!
