Mattilacken Posted August 31 Posted August 31 That engine must be atleast 50% of the total weight haha it’s huge!! 1
Cool Hand Posted August 31 Author Posted August 31 Done some work to the LJ Torana interior. Components oob. After some modifications. Rear seat delete, wheel tubs, smoothed the inner door panels, filled the holes in the drive line tunnel and removed front seat mounts. 1

Thanks Bob, hoping the LJ will be a good representation of a typical Aussie Burnout car and be on the same level as the HQ I built last year. 1
Cool Hand Posted Monday at 01:16 PM Author Posted Monday at 01:16 PM As per usual I get distracted with the thoughts and idea's. After building the rusty/patina Skyline I have wanted to do another build like that. But have been undecided what kit to dig out of the stash. Then I seen a fellow members build of a Aoshima RN30 Hilux which reminded me I had a Datsun 720 I had started, lost interest and put back in the box and buried back in the stash So after some searching found the kit. I rediscovered the kit has no interior tub as I donated that to some one years ago. The stance and wheels were already set up, and after a bit of back and forth with idea's and some modification to the bonnet/hood I decided a super charged drift truck with patina will be the go. Engine parts are SlowysModels LS 3 engine and supercharger from his blower set So yeah wont be anything too fancy or serious. Small amount of body work, scratch build an interior tub and roll cage. After that the fun part of painting. 5
Cool Hand Posted Tuesday at 04:14 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 04:14 PM Some progress on the Dato 720. Scratch built the interior tub out of some 1.5mm styrene sheet and the driveline tunnel was sourced from my scrap parts which was cut out of a Holden HQ interior. Also picked out some seats and steering wheel from the parts stash. Scratch built a roll cage. Thought I better double check and ensure correct steering wheel placement and position, cant have the scale purists cringing 🤣 Added some cage work in the bed. Start on the body work next. 2
johnyrotten Posted Tuesday at 04:21 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:21 PM Awesome work on that interior. That cage looks perfect. 1

Cage looks the part, buts its little bit skewed. But thats okay, wont matter once its inside the cab. On 9/3/2025 at 7:38 AM, Zippi said: Oh boy...I'm liking this one Luke. Thanks Bob, should be something different.

Zippi Posted Thursday at 12:25 PM Posted Thursday at 12:25 PM That rusty base coat layed down pretty nice there Luke and those wheels will look killer. 1

Thanks Bob. The Mr Color GX 114 flat clear lays down super smooth. I cant wait to see what the wheels look like, got them painted just need to let them dry a bit before I can do a mock up. Cool Hand Posted Thursday at 07:09 PM Author Posted Thursday at 07:09 PM I really liked the blue green colour shift and rust combo, so had to do it again. Used finer grain table salt and less of it on the Datto. But I will go back in and add some more rust with sponging technique. 2
Cool Hand Posted Friday at 07:37 AM Author Posted Friday at 07:37 AM (edited) Finished the rusty/patina paint work. And assembled the wheels. 😁 Edited Friday at 07:38 AM by Cool Hand 3
Cool Hand Posted Friday at 10:32 AM Author Posted Friday at 10:32 AM Printed a couple more components for the Datto. 3
