Hello all hope you’re all well. Question I have just gotten a kit from the 1980’s and the kit decals look to be in pretty good shape. However how do I prep the decals to ensure that they play nice? As always all help is appreciated. Thank you.

Regards

I would clearcoat them with the clearcoat of your choice, just make sure it's compatible by testing it on a decal you won't be using from the sheet. You will have to cut close to each one as this will make a film over the entire sheet, but it SHOULD prevent them from breaking apart. If you are trying to get rid of yellowing, tape them to a window that faces sunlight for a few days.

Lee,

Good morning hope it's well. Thank you for the reply. I thought I had seen that before somewhere but wanted to be correct. Have a great day and as always thank you for the help.

There are over the counter sprays designed for just such a situation. That is where I would start.

Thanks David. I just looked and the article I found listed Rustoleum 2X Clear Gloss, Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear as best results. Others listed had issues.

Jerry, the question you are asking is one of those topics that comes up here fairly regularly.  Here is the most recent thread (the answers will be same this time around).  Check it out.
