Gary Chastain Posted February 25, 2022 Author Posted February 25, 2022 Input needed: using the wider tires puts the tires just outside of the fenders. Bought two sets of flares for earlier Peterbilt and seem to fit fairly well. Questions: No.1 switch back to narrow tires? No.2 add flares to cover wide tires? no3: if using flares, should they go to the bottom of side skirts, which I could do by sectioning the second set of flares to extend length?

Gary Chastain Posted February 28, 2022 Author Posted February 28, 2022 Added some detail, but where to stop. Wanted the motor to look well used but not rusty old. Used some details cues from the archives in this site, not sure how accurate I am but it will do until the next build.
Gary Chastain Posted March 3, 2022 Author Posted March 3, 2022 Quick update: chassis coming together, next building larger fuel tanks and starting on delivery box floor.
Sergey Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 (edited) Interesting build! About used engine: the border between paint and dirt turned out too sharp for reel thing. I would take cotton swab with a drop of solvent and wipe off the excess on some border lines. About the flares: I would cut them to hood line OR lengthen them to the bottom of side skirts. Good luck! Gary Chastain Posted March 8, 2022 Author Posted March 8, 2022 Update: built new frame/floor for the box, will add wood floor. Cut down trailer walls and roof to fit length of floor and will receive inner metal studs and then thin balsa wood will be attached to walls. Braces will be added to roof as well. Sleeper aero skirts have been straightened to match cargo box. Much more finishing to come.
Gary Chastain Posted March 9, 2022 Author Posted March 9, 2022 Happy with the floor of the cargo box.
Gary Chastain Posted March 13, 2022 Author Posted March 13, 2022 Finished the woodwork inside the cargo box and added tie down bars. Now to make better hinges for the rear cargo doors. 1
Warren D Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I'm getting used to narrowing front track as I'm using larger wheels more often than not. Takes a bit of thinking but you should be able to pull the wheels in. Great job on the box!

I actually found a different set of wheels and tires (slightly wider than kit wheels) that fit without flares.
Mopar - D Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Nice wood working on the interior I was waiting to see if you were going to replace those monsters that come in the kit. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with for new hinges.
slusher Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Great wood work inside the box! Really nice detail plumbing the brakes!

I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with for new hinges. Thank you, already designed a couple sets but I want the doors to swing around to the side of the box so it’s going to require an offset hinge and built to scale. The hinges that come with the kit are out of scale and a bit crude.
Gary Chastain Posted March 30, 2022 Author Posted March 30, 2022 Well not sure how this will turn out. The rear doors that came in the kit do not fit very well and the hinges just don’t fit the scale or look very good. So plugging all the holes in the back panel, cut new doors. Now to make hinges that allow the rear doors to swing all the way to the side of the trailer. Then make a working rear door latches to duplicate originals. 1
Mopar - D Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 Gary I’m watching to see how you made your hinges for the rear doors. Good luck.
