tbill Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 So, in semi typical fashion, I have a mis alignment of what I deem a major component. I’m building a big rig, and have somehow botched an exhaust joint, keep in mind, this is about 200 parts in, and everything is painted and glued together ( cab is not glued to frame yet, but is in proper position)I’ve built this kit a couple of times , and haven’t had this issue, I think I see where the problem originates, ( my poor alignment of an exhaust hanger) but need some advice/thoughts on how to rectify it without wrecking everything around it, see attached pic.. the cab and hood alignment is pretty spot on, exhaust stack install is pretty spot on as well, just need to bend the lower exhaust pipe, thoughts, advice, and asking why I didn’t quadruple check the basics questions all welcome.
Jim B Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Oh, oh. That's no bueno. Could you maybe use a hair dryer on low to soften the offending piece & bend it to the right position?
Mark Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Is there anywhere you can cut that part of the pipe, remove it, and then rework it to fit? A small photoetch saw blade that fits into an X-Acto or similar knife handle is what I'm thinking... 1

tbill Posted February 5, 2022 Author Posted February 5, 2022 Well, tragedy averted. I guess I over thought the issue, as usual. I figured before I got cutting, I’d try the heat idea, I have a butane soldering iron that has a ‘hot air’ tip that I use for shrink wrap, so I fired that up and hit the pipe with some heat, it responded way better than I had anticipated, given the thickness of the plastic, I thought it would take a lot to get it warm enough to bend, but it didn’t take much, didn’t even phase the paint. Lessons learned. 1
rightrudder Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 (edited) I'm glad you had success, and thanks for sharing the result. No doubt I'll use your technique in the future. ? Truck looks great, BTW! Edited February 5, 2022 by rightrudder
