juergen Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 hi marcos !!! the paint job for the starliner looks very shiny and nice for me. the color compo red - white is also very nice !!! i hope for more pics next time !!!! greets jürgen
cruz Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 I was able to finish polishing this thing last night. A little tedious because of all the molding and tricky lines but I am pleasd with the results!!!
MrObsessive Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Nice Paint Bro! Now I gotta admit, I do like this combo better than the "Mary Kaye Pink". That gloss is flawless!
cruz Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) Check this out guys, when I removed the model from the dissolver it maintained the shape of the body!!!Crazy, no????? Edited April 5, 2009 by marcos cruz
Dr. Cranky Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 It looks like something you'd find in a pickle jar at a Deli! Yikes!
roadhawg Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Check this out guys, when I removed the model from the dissolver it maintained the shape of the body!!!Crazy, no????? Put it on Ebay as "used paint to fit a 1960 Ford"...............
Custom Hearse Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I think it looks like one of the jars of formaldehyde they have in a science lab.... "Here we have the preserved body of a New York city rat. And over here we have a preserved head of a possum. And over here we have a preserved form of an AMT 1960 Ford Starliner kit, generously donated by Marcos Cruz....
cotto Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Wow Cruz, your projects are always inspirational man, don't know why you are not featured in the magazines with all the stuff you share. Paint is just awesome man. When you foil this thing it will really stand out. I mean, I was just looking at the "other" magazine and I have seen models on their covers that don't even come close to the stuff you do.
cruz Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 Had a little bit of time today and did a little bit of BMFing. This thing is tedious and at times almost impossible specially around the front but I am getting there with a bit of patience and a lot of spanish cursing....
Fisher61 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Looks great Marcos.as usual! I've got one of these to do yet, it looks like a great kit!
Foxer Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) Those old 60's are BMF nightmares ... looks great! . and so does the paint.. oh my it looks good! I have a 59 Chevy you can do next... Edited April 13, 2009 by Foxer

MrObsessive Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Bro, that is lookin' FABULOUS! The BMF on that looks top notch as that's not an easy car to do! I am getting there with a bit of patience and a lot of spanish cursing.... Hee Hee.............I can only imagine!
Kombi Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Really clean BMF work there, I've got this kit on deck so I'm looking forward to what can be done with it.
cotto Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Sweet Cruz, by the way, did you also BMF the part behind the rear wheels? It doesn't look as shiny as the molding. This thing is going to be a work of art brother. Looks lot a lot of work and one that I would not even think of doing.

This thing is going to be a work of art brother. Looks lot a lot of work and one that I would not even think of doing. Thanks Jay! For the rear skirt I used Model Master's Aluminum Buffing Metalizer paint, these skirts were not a shiny chrome but more of a high polished metal. The surrounding molding is BMFed!!
Foxer Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Thanks but no thanks, I went through that nightmare already!!!! Let me ask a question, but first, that does look great! How did you handle the bmf around the rear corner of the fins? Just short pieces of length?
cruz Posted April 14, 2009 Author Posted April 14, 2009 Yes, I work little pieces around that to form the elbow of the molding first and then I overlap the rest of the BMF that runs the lentgh of the molding. I do the same to the corners of the front and rear glass and anything that pertains to the corners. Not only is it easier but I think it will look more like the ones on the 1/1 car.....
Raul_Perez Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 (edited) Marcos, This one is really progressing nicely!! I love the color combination and the paint job looks right on the money!! I can hardly wait to see this one finished and on display in my cabinet!! You did say that you are going to send it to me when you are finished, didn't you? Later, Edited April 14, 2009 by Raul_Perez

Thanks for the conformation ... that's what I always thought about places where you have to start another piece of BMF .. it always occurs right where the real cars break their trim.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Looking sharp and elegant, buddy, keep it going.
FujimiLover Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Bare Metal Foil is tough to do and this look's very professional! WOW!
cruz Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 Bare Metal Foil is tough to do and this look's very professional! WOW!Thanks my friend. You know, it's a little tough to do but it's something that has to be perfected through a lot of practice. I say this because I have a lot of people telling me that they have so many issues when working with it. What I always suggest to do is to always use a brand new blade everytime and to not put too much pressure, this foil is so thin that excessive pressure on the knife is never needed. One of the reasons I scribe my bodies before painting is so that I can see the lines after the painting phase is complete. This is a tedious process but one that is well worth it at the end, specially with this type of kit. It is something that ANYONE can do, really!!!
