stavanzer Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Yesterday. Even Google and the Whitehouse ignored it. WH issued a tweet (!?) remembering it at 8:45pm.... WTH? The 90-100 year old veterans of this must be wondering exactly what they fought for. $6.00 a gallon Gas? 8% inflation? But, they are alive, and this IS the USA, so all Honor and Praise to them!
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Kinda sad, but not too many people even know what war that was, or who was in it, where it took place, what it was about...or care.
Mike C. Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Sadly the greatest generation is starting to die off and the young kids today are too obsessed with their Instagram to even learn what their forefathers sacrificed so that they may have a better life. Thank you to anyone who served over the years. These holidays are more than blowing off fireworks and getting drunk.
Oldcarfan27 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I watched Saving Private Ryan once (only once, I couldn't do it again). Very powerful depiction of just a small amount of what they went through. I was moved and appreciative of what they did for the cause of FREEDOM! Thank you all who serve and served! ??
BlackSheep214 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I have a habit to pull a fast pop quiz and my wife and son on certain dates? -"What is today?" Usually they are caught off guard but get it right... sometimes. LOL! The dates I do a fast one are D-Day Pearl Harbor Attacked The end of WW1 The end of WW2
Engine 51 Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 My father in law was injured by shrapnel in the hedgerows during the D-Day invasion. Those injuries stuck with him for the rest of his life. May God bless them all and their memory.
TonyK Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 Yes, Saving Private Ryan was more real than so many other war movies. It made you "feel" the horror of war and what these soldiers went through. As a kid, I checked out every book from our school and the county library and have watched every movie about WW2 and read more books throughout life. So many things about that war were fascinating (not always in a good way) and today I am always aware of the significant dates and they should never be taken lightly.
