International Paystar 5000 updates

I have a paystar 5000 and I would like to update it some. I have a newer hood and would like to put a more recent engine in. My online research shows most truck listing state the engine as a cummins.  Could anyone tell me what would be appropriate and would I be able to fine one in resin? Thanks in advance.

I guess depending on what "year" your Paystar will be, you could use either a Cummins L10 or M11.  I believe Gary Wallace of GW Trucks (gwtrucks@yahoo.com) sells them.

Yeah, as Jim said, the era of the hood you're using will determine what engines are appropriate. The Cummins in the Revell K100 kits would work into the early 80s though you'd probably want to convert it to the more common single turbo version. The Cat 3406B in the Revell snap kits would also work for the early 80s. The 8v92T in the AMT Papa and Hideout trucks is also from the dame era. Once you get newer than that you'll have to track down a resin one.

Dan it does not matter what year of engine you use..first of all its a model. Remember always build your way...I put a Cat 3406 under the hood of my 5600, stretched the cal and added exterior breathers..

X2 These were commonly used.

Like has been said already, unless you are building a factory fresh build, you can use what ever engine you would like.

The 3406 in the snap kits are not “B” motors. There is a little difference in the pump, front cover and the compressor mounting on the 3406B, but Gary Wallace offers the “B” motor as well.

Paystars often used 3208 Cats as well, but I am not sure how late those were used.

Thank you for your input gentlemen.  I have plastilkit hood for it. looking online and the hood  probably represents an 80' s on up and I figured the kit engine probably wasn't offered in later years.

Remember that workhorse trucks are bought for WORK. If an engine eventually breaks, the owners can and will use whatever replacement engine will get the job done!

Doubt there are many high mileage "numbers matching" retired rigs.

If you're building a wheathered veteran, use whatever engine suits your needs. Make up the story to go with it.
