dsummone Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 Just got this kit, this has always been my dream car. A friend of mines cousin had a 69 hardtop, hemi with 4:10s. I got to ride in it once and it would make you feel like you were part of the seat. Im going to build this in the style I like, 1970s, wider rear tires, higher stance in the rear etc… I’ve got a Mopar power steering pump and belt set that I’m going to add, headers (going to try making my own) and paint it a blue of some sort with white interior. Got the Hemi started already. Thanks for looking Dave. 2
Keef Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 I have this kit in my stash, can’t wait to see what you do with it. 1
TNT Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Love the 68 gtx. Started on one kit. Then accidently bought a 2nd. Blue should be cool. I picked up some dupli color patriot blue the other day i may try. 1
roadhawg Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Looks good so far. The title is what caught my attention, it says '68 GTX. Are you planning on converting this to a '68?

dsummone Posted July 12, 2022 Author Posted July 12, 2022 Hemi is wired and plumbed, pics with and without air cleaner. 2
dsummone Posted July 14, 2022 Author Posted July 14, 2022 Got the blue on the body, now wait till I can mask it off and I’m going to paint the lower section a grey. Built a set of headers, not sure if I’ll use them or not. Dave. 1

dsummone Posted July 16, 2022 Author Posted July 16, 2022 Decided to go with the headers, got the hemi, suspension and exhaust installed but I forgot to paint the drive shaft… grrr. That’s gonna take a bit of finagling with everything else installed. Decided not to run fuel and brake lines on this one like I did the Chevelle, that was a complete pain in the. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator core support was a bit of a challenge and I’ve got my fingers crossed that everything fits in the body when the time comes. Dave. 1
slusher Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Very nice built and wired Hemi! Great looking headers! 1 1
dsummone Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 Interior is ready. Got the rocker panel paint on this morning and waiting for it to dry. Dave. 1
dsummone Posted July 22, 2022 Author Posted July 22, 2022 Got the foil on the body and couldn’t help but set it on the chassis. Still need to finish with repolishing a couple areas and the shine it up. Final assembly soon! Dave. 1
Bronzekeg Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 looking great, I got the same kit for a future build. 1 1
dsummone Posted July 25, 2022 Author Posted July 25, 2022 Well, I’m calling this one finished, It’s got some scratches on the trunk from trying to sand out a couple imperfections in the paint that I couldn’t get to polish out. I used 1500 then 3000 paper then used Mothers scratch remover followed by Meguiers ultimate polish and finished with Turtle wax ceramic polish and wax but they persisted. On a side note, I do like the ceramic wax and if anyone has experience with…. Especially bad experience, let me know before I use it on my other projects. I thought this kit was really well made, very little adjustments other than the hood was a bit warped, I think I got rid of it by rubber banding it to a softball, we’ll see if it stays true. I was a bit surprised that the kit came with red tail light lenses but the headlights were chrome. Also the wiper blades were molded in rather than separate pieces. My other complaint would be that this being a GTX it didn’t include a power steering pump, i had one from the Charger I built and didn’t use. I know it was an option for the real thing, also the air grabber wouldn’t fit. I have the motor all the way down on the motor mounts and used the supplied intake and carbs but it sits too high. The carbs are a little lacking in detail also. Overall it was a fun build for this beginner and I am happy with the end result. Thanks for looking and the comments Dave. 2
