AMT Plymouth "Fury" (more like "Belvedere") - another "Christine"

Guess I could have titled this, "Why I can't yet finish the Marlboro Syclone that I started way back when..."

I was gifted this AMT / Round 2 "Christine" by my Brother-in-law for Christmas 2021.   I got started on it right away and then got distracted by other projects.   So, trying to finish this up now.

It's an older kit, so there are some sink marks and flash to address:

I removed all of the "chrome" using my (current) favorite - Purple Power, and then cleaned up parts as necessary:

I shot Tamiya Dark Blue over some of the parts that are to be "chrome" and Tamiya Gloss Black over others (Tamiya Spray Lacquers).

I don't think that blue vs black made any difference in an undercoating:

I did try to open the door handles by using some micro drills, tape, and a trusty X-Acto #11:

In retrospect, I should have just shaved the handles and used Fireball Modelwork's Chrysler door handles:

After more body cleanup, I decided on using Tamiya Bright Red over their Pink Primer:

...and I did something risky.  To get the white top as bright as possible (as in, preventing bleed through of the red plastic, etc.), I sprayed the top of the car with Alclad II Chrome when I painted some of the chrome trim.  I then overshot this with Tamiya White Primer and then TS-26 Bright White.  So far, nothing weird has happened, but I'm not sure I'd recommend this.    :)

Nearing completion:

A little dirt on the underside, but nothing much:

The banana shaped side trim of this kit is well documented; I decided to leave it.  In retrospect, I probably should have tinted the wing windows, too:

I still have some minor details, such as the license plates; but, I wanted to get a quick outside shot:

Looks great. I like the finishes and the color. Funny, I built one of these a long time ago and it was also red. Not a Christen, just red.

Good looking piece!

Thank you, this kit was a little more challenging than I anticipated.

Really like the chassis detailing.

I feel like I cheated :)  It's mostly Alclad II for the "metals" and Tamiya washes.

I'd love to see that.  Has anyone ever built one of these and not painted it red?

The engine in the kit does not match the engine in the movie, but I think I'm just going to go with it and glue the hood shut.   Movie car (From Barrett-Jackson):

Kit engine, which I think if one were to change the carbs and air cleaners, one could get pretty close:

Not to mention the distributor's location. The kit's engine seems to be a hybrid of 'A' engine and 'B'/'RB' engine components.
The 1:1's engine is a 350 cube 'B' engine (Chrysler's first-in-a-series of big blocks); the transmission, a cast iron A-488 Torqueflite (which didn't go to aluminium casting until the 1962 model year: the A-727).

*EDIT*

The kit's intake manifold is also A-engine (in this instance, 318 cube Polyshpere type). The B/RB have a lifter valley pan with a separate intake, all years (1958-1978). I'm thinking that maybe the intake from the 1971 Charger R/T 440 four barrel would fit, but it's a single carburetor.
