OK, so a quick mock-up shows it sitting too high for my taste. I could lower the front a tad, but I think I'll go a different direction. I'm going to add the spare fenders and hood, along with the removable top. My wife thinks it looks cute that way, so who am I to argue, LOL. I trimmed the flash on those parts today and should be able to prime and spray the charcoal basecoat tomorrow, followed by the Pearl Plum Saturday, and hope it matches well enough. Not sure yet if I want to add the custom truck bed, but I'm going to paint it too and let the wife make that call. I do need to add a piece of strip styrene on the inside front of the hood on each side to eliminate the gap toward the top before I prime and paint.

Do you want a correct Grille to fit that hood?

I have one.

Alan

I believe that would be the Ala Kart grille? As far as I know that’s the only thing missing to be able to build the Kart from this kit. I would love to have the grille that fits the hood, but sadly I wouldn’t be able to pay for it for a month or so as finances are that tight right now for me. I appreciate the offer though.

Looks great.

I think I prefer the running board and pickup bed version, how does this version look like with the hood off? Or even the sides removed from the hood?

Do you have a preference for DecoArt or Crafsmart hobby acrylic paints?

I was able to prime and lay down the Charcoal Gray basecoat on the fenders, hood, and truck bed this morning, and then sprayed on the Pearl Plum this afternoon. I also sprayed the roof with white primer before taping off the stripe pattern and painting that Pearl Plum. I think everything looks pretty good. I'll get the clear sprayed on tomorrow.

Here's the pickup bed and fender version without the hood. As far as Decoart vs. Craftsmart, I have no real preference. Most of the craft paints are pretty much the same in quality and thickness, and they're pretty interchangeable as I have no problem mixing one brand with another to get custom colors. I do have a lot more Decoart Metallics simply because the store we shop at has them in their small craft section. I got some Decoart at Hobby Lobby as well, but they do not carry Craftsmart paints there. I just don't visit any stores that carry the Craftsmart Metallics very often. I use Decoart, Folkart, Apple Barrel, Craftsmart, Anita's, and Delta with no real preference. Honestly, I just go with whatever color grabs me or looks closest to what I have in mind at whatever store I happen to be in.

I really love that "Pearl Plum" color. Hood off looks pretty cool to me. Perhaps you could bend a piece of sheet styrene into a hood top and see how it looks with a hood with no sides.

Nice work on these two cars.

It's funny that I've shown so many pics of the Hot Rod version getting painted, while I continuously pick away at the stock version without taking progress pics. That's just how my memory works, lol. Anyways, the stock version is just about finished, but somehow I lost the coolant hose part so I glued the radiator to the hood since I won't be taking any engine pics. I'll have the completed pics posted when I get the Hot Rod done so I can get them taken all at once. I'll get to piecing that engine together tomorrow with some parts box items to help make it look less toy-like.

I spent today tinkering around with engine choices for the Hot Rod. I started by adding some Chevy heads, intake and water pump to the kit motor. However, while sorting through my parts box I found the extra Buick V-8 from the AMT 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery kit. It seems to be a perfect fit. I had already primed it way back when I built the kit, so I assembled it and sprayed some Green stuff World Chrome on it with Mission Aluminum for the trans. I brush painted some of the Pearl Plum on the valve covers too. Plenty of detailing still to do on it, but I like it.

I figure it's about time to get back to work on the Mod Rod Hot Rod. I got the body parts wet-sanded, polished, and waxed. I taped off and painted the running boards, and painted the 'straps" on the fuel tank in Molotow Chrome.

I got the decals applied on the Mod Rod today. I also got the headlights, taillights, and front and rear nerf bars ready to be installed, and the frame glued to the fender assembly.

More done on the Mod Rod Hot Rod. The instructions showed to mount the taillights onto the top of the rear fender for this version. I didn't a\want to do that, so I drilled a hole into the bottom of the taillights and inserted a copper wire to use as a pin. I drilled holes into the sides of the fenders then pinned the taillight into the hole. It's not glued yet, but I think it looks pretty cool. I did the same to the headlights, and finished the interior. The shifter is a sewing needle that I heated and bent to shape.

You have done some really nice work!  May I ask where you sourced those tail lights?

Thanks Carl, it is testing my patience though, lol. Those are the kit taillights. Thankfully they look kinda cool as I don't really have much to choose from in the spare parts box.
