kpnuts Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Hi all going through my stash I've discovered I have these two kits of the same subject so I thought I would build them both at the same time so we can all see the differences between them. First thing you can see is the colours are different on both of them. I have no idea which is right (if either) but I don't really care I will paint them both as per instructions. The dark brown is the revell kit The whiter coloured sails are the revell ones. At first glance the revell kit is the better detailed of them.
Bugatti Fan Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 There was a book by Noel C Hackney published by Patrick Stephens in the UK dedicated to building, detailing and rigging the Airfix kit of the Mayflower that should be good for the Revell one as well. There were two other books by the same author and publisher for the Airfix Victory and Cutty Sark kits.I They were published back in the 70's so a trawl of the web for second hand books on EBay etc may find one. I have all three excellent books. Patrick Stephens also published a number of very similar books dedicated to super detailing some of the 1/24th scale aircraft kits by Airfix at that time.
kpnuts Posted October 2, 2022 Author Posted October 2, 2022 OK so far the Revell kit is far and away the better fitting kit, the Airfix kit is lucky it's not taken an unscheduled flight across the room. Airfix kit. Revell kit. So far Revell is wining.
TransAmMike Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Well Kenneth, the hull is awesome. Can't wait to see the rest.
Joe Nunes Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Built the Revell Mayflower kit when I was a teenager (my Father and paternal Grandparents were from Plymouth, Massachusetts) and remember the build was challenging, especially the painting. Turned out to be a good looking model after quite a few hours of work. Your build is coming along nicely and makes me want to build another Mayflower! Joe
Joe Nunes Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Any further news and photos of this nice project? Joe
