MustangMike Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 (edited) Hello all! A member here I've been dealing with for awhile suggested I join this forum and tell you all about the resin products I have for the Mustang II Coupe & Ghia, Cobra and King Cobra fans out there (like me!). I started casting my own parts and started this whole project about 3 yrs. ago after much frustration with the stock kits and unavailability of custom parts. Since that time I've made over 30 different parts, wheels and scale vinyl printed decals just for the Mustang II kits. Most of the parts were based off of the re-release of the AMT/Ertl 77' Mustang II Street Custom, but I've used most all of the parts and decals on the MPC Firefighter Mustang II with some pretty minor alterations. I'm posting a pic of one of my finished projects on here and you can view more on my website: www.mustangmikes.com. There may be something for everyone here and the site is new and a work in progress. I've really enjoyed reading this forum and am looking forward to being a contributing member! Kind Regards, --"Mustang" Mike Edited March 5, 2009 by MustangMike
Blue coyote Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Welcome, Mike! Glad you made it! As a Mustang II niche modeller, I apreciate the efforts you've put into this. I've gotten a fair selection of what Mike has for sale on his site, and its all been top-notch quality (and yes, that's my testimonial on his site).
Smart-Resins Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 I really like that car! I spy some pistriping raising up on its edge, but it is a nice axemple of the stang II's Perhaps when I get a kit, ill have to look your way for aftermarket parts to build it! JOdy
Eshaver Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 So when will you do a Pinto Crusin Wagon with the 1977 Decals? Ed Shaver
MustangMike Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 So when will you do a Pinto Crusin Wagon with the 1977 Decals? Ed Shaver A Pinto Wagon may be outside of my expertise ; ) , but it would be way cool. My next venture I think will be a Maverick ~ maybe in the next year or so?

Man I didn't catch that - lol. I took the pics right after I finished the body. I have a vinyl cutter that I used to cut the VERY fine pinstripes for this particular project. I was going to let it go with just the decals but this car was screaming for the pinstripe. Here's another shot....

Aaronw Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I've got a Mustang 2 kit in the stash. Some of these parts will definately be finding their way onto it. Just a suggestion, if you could have a link to a pic of the parts in each listing it would be nice. You do list after them so it is fairly clear what you get, but I like to see pics, plus I'm not that familiar with the Mustang 2 so there are a few things like the wheels it would be nice to actually see. Since you seem to be pretty familiar with the Mustang 2 maybe you can help me out. I've run into a slight snag on building what I want. When I was a kid saw a black & green Cobra 2 at a county fair, this would have been during the production run for the car so somewhere in the 74-78 range, I really want to say 76-77 but not really sure. My memory might be slipping but I'm positive it had a big cobra on the hood. Neither the Cobra 2 or the King Cobra looks right to me, the Cobra was like that used on the Shelby Mustangs. Did Shelby ever do anything with the Mustang 2?
MustangMike Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Hi Aaron, The parts list page is a work in progress as the rest of the site in general. What I'm wanting to do is for customers to be able to hover over the part number and have a thumbnail of the part appear. Of course you'll be able to click on the part to view it completely. We're adding new parts, updates and pics everyday so you'll have to check back every once in a while. If there's something specific you'd like to see just email me: michael@mustangmikes.com. Most everything is viewable now in the store. The Mustang II's, 74 - 78 were Lee Iacocca's baby. Shelby had absolutely nothing to do with these models and the "Cobra" name being added to them was sort of a scandal between Ford and Shelby. The only Cobra's that you'll see on the hoods are on the King Cobra's. The regular Cobra II's had a fairly good size decal on the front qtr. panels and badging in the grill, side louvres, and interior door panels. These cars were not really built with performance in mind, but still ended up being one of Ford's all time best selling vehicles. >>Jump in any time Coyote - lol<< A good resource for the II's are mustangII.net and mustangII.org. I go there a lot for inspiration and research for the parts. A lot of this stuff I just know from memory. My very first car was a 77' Ghia coupe with a 302 and my next was of course a 78' Cobra II fastback/hatchback with a 302. There wasn't a part on either car I didn't either have to replace or troubleshoot, but I loved them just the same. Hope this helps and thanks for the feedback! --Mike
Blue coyote Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Okay, I'll jump in with a bit of what I know from memory (what little memory I have, anyway)... Other than a few cars built right around the beginning or end of each year's production run, all Cobra II's from the beginning (~late 75) to the end of 77 had the Shelby-style center double-stripes with pinstripes along the outer edges, rearing Cobra fender badges, matching coloured side stripes with "Cobra II" along the LOWER EDGE of the side, as well as in small printing offset on the rear spoiler. 78 Cobra II's had a single very wide hood stripe, with multiple pinstriped edges, matching full-side stripe with HUGE "COBRA II" side graphic, and large lettering centered on the rear spoiler. 78 King Cobra's had the huge hood snake, very small "King Cobra" door and offset rear spoiler placement, and about 4.5 miles of pinstriping (including an outline around the T-roof panels, even on NON-T-top cars!!!) There are a few other Mustang II's that had unique graphics or paint (all Mach 1's had blacked-out lower body and rear panel, all Stallions were two-toned paint with fender emblems, etc. And the only year that is easily distinguished from the others is the 74, which had the fuel cap below the side body line and had a flat-nosed hood. 75-78 II's had the fuel cap above the side body line and the center of the hood comes an extra 3" forward into the header panel. If you need any other info on the Mustang II, shoot me an email. Absolutely NO exagerating when I label myself a II fanatic...
Aaronw Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Thanks, I would have been a little guy 7-11 years old, so I guess it could have been a cobra on the fender, I'm going back 30 years or so. I didn't see a cobra on the fender of the built models on the site.

I didn't see a cobra on the fender of the built models on the site. I only need to go back a few minutes. I have a 77 Cobra II in my garage, a 78 King Cobra in the driveway, and lately I've been rebuilding another King Cobra, a modified Mustang II Rallye, and a custom 78Mustang II T-top coupe, with a bit of wrenching on a 77 Ghia, a 74 Ghia, a 76 coupe, and stripping down a couple of 76 Cobra II's. I don't exagerate about being a Mustang II fanatic in ALL scales, either. Trust me, my Mustang II bits box is HUUUUUUUGE!
MustangMike Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) Here's one of my latest projects I completed. You can see more pics in the Projects section on my website: http://www.mustangmikes.com/projects2.htm This was built using several of my resin parts and the Firefighter II kit. It's fun to find time to be able to build once in a while Enjoy! --Mustang Mike Edited March 5, 2009 by MustangMike
Blue coyote Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I like it, Mike! But looking at that, it just seems to be begging me to mix in the King airdam with those flares... Oh, and I also like the other flares you did up for me. Can't wait to get my dirty little fingers on a few sets and start yet more works in progress...
SoCalCarCulture Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Nice! I've added you to my page of Aftermarket Resources.

Aaronw Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) I ordered the parts to do the Black & Green Cobra II I saw as a kid. Shipping was quick, took about a week from payment until I had them in my hands. Just a quickie review, parts are nicely cast with minimal flash. The rear window louver came with a little bit of a warp to it, but should be fairly easy to fix. I just quickly test fit them to my AMT '77 Mustang II kit and it looks like everything fits well and should be a fairly painless modification. Instructions would have been nice to show where all this stuff goes but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out from photos of the real car. I'm giving Mustang Mike and a Edited August 29, 2009 by Aaronw
