Pace spraybooth size question

Am considering a Pace spraybooth with an opening of 24" x 15" for use in the basement hobby room. Most of my auto/truck models are 1/25 and 1/24 scales, planes are 1/72 and 1/48 scales with a few at 1/32 scale.   Also have some ship models on the shelf.  The question: do you folks who have the 24" wide spraybooth find a real need for, or wish you had purchased, the 36" wide spraybooth?  There is a big price difference between the two sizes and thus the question. Thank you for the thoughts and comments. ?

I had a custom built 24 inch booth i built using the same dayton blower the 36 inch pace spraybooth uses.  It was a good booth just ended up being too small just needed more space to move plus try to imagine painting big rig trailer kit in that size.  I kept my dayton blower as it cost more than it did to build the booth i had so now i have a spare.  But if you're like me than you'll want that 36" booth as it'll be the last you ever need for any model up to 33-34 inches long.  It's pricey because he includes shipping in the price, and also look at it this way - it happens with fish tanks all the time you get a 55 gallon thinking its huge, but week later you're like man should of got a 75 gallon or bigger.  Here are two pics of the booth the day i got it, and he does take about a good week or so to ship it out cause there not pre built least i don't think they are, and i got mine within 2 days after it was shipped out via UPS and packaging is pretty good too.  Barbatos rex on youtube has a video of his he got as well if you wanna see a video of it. 

I would also recommend good lighting for it as well.  I use waveform lighting bulbs Waveform Lighting bulbs there expensive but you get what you pay for and 95CRI and they do have the 60watt versions and they only use like 10watts.  You can also use a light bar too whatever you fancy.

Thank you for the get back regarding the spray booth, Dusty.  I certainly don't want to be cramped for space while painting a model so your comments regarding size are understood. And a special thanks for the lighting information which is a big consideration when looking through these old eyes of mine.

No problem.  Using high CRI bulbs weather it's 5000K or 6500K you'll never look at cheap store bought bulbs again.  High CRI least 95 makes a HUGE difference makes colors come ALIVE and easier on the eyes too.

What type of overhead shop light? Does it use standard E26 Edison socket or tubes? This is the site here https://www.waveformlighting.com/ you can hover over lights at the top and see everything they have to offer.

I made my own from materials I had on hand. The key is width and lighting. Fan/Airflow requirements will depend on how long and skinny your exhaust is.

Mine is about 25" wide. Before you use it, do your self a big favor and skin the inside with GLAD press-and-seal film. It keeps your inner walls and deck clean over the long run. When it is dirty. Peel it off and apply a new batch. Works for the table you put it on too. I had an unforeseen fortunate choice of materials when it came to using corrugated plastic sheeting. It holds freshly painted parts on bamboo skewers right above the action, making assembly line painting require much less motion (and boo boos) on my part. Note: Multiple parts IN the booth were staged there for in-progress photography purposes but, show how much width 25" can provide.

All good advice above! And I agree….bigger is better! I built my own booth in my garage originally for powder coating. The best upgrade i did was a two foot led light from Home Depot.

I think if you have the room in your workshop for the larger booth, I think you would be happier in the end. Besides having more room to move around whatever you're painting there are other things you might not first think of. You are going to use a lot of filters, and the larger booths usually use a common household size filter that are a lot less expensive than the specialized filters usually found in the smaller units.

Thank you, David. I have the room for a larger spray booth but honestly haven't convinced myself I would actually get much use out of the extra width. Especially when I consider the cost difference; that difference can represent a lot of model paint. Nevertheless I am still giving the choice a lot of thought.

You'll be surprised how well you will get along with that. I built mine 25" wide and it's been fine for me including 1/16 scale cars. I don't do big ships but if I did, when I think big even 36 wide probably wouldn't do it anyway.
