Kevin Conroy passed today of intestinal cancer.

You may not know his face but you certainly have heard his voice.

starting in '99 he voiced Batman in almost all TV animated shows with Batman in then as well as movies and video games.

When I think of Batman, it's his voice I hear.

He started earlier than ‘99, The Animated Series started in ‘92, and he did the voices in that, Batman Beyond, and a lot of the animated movies as well as video games, he even played Bruce Wayne in one of the WB/DC live action series in one of the episodes!  He’s really “The Batman” for Millennials as well as younger Gen-Xers like myself, just like Adam West was for the kids that grew up with the live action series in the 60’s.

I was shocked reading this earlier. His characterization of Batman, especially by the time he was doing the Justice League/JLU shows, was unparalleled. He played Batman/Bruce as young and cocky, jaded and cynical and even old and cranky. His delivery and dry sense of humor created what many people consider the definitive version of Batman. His voice work managed to make an animated superhero in a cape and cowl seem, well, human.

One thing I never paid attention to before yesterday is that he actually changed the tone of his voice if he was voicing Bat Man or Bruce Wayne. I don’t remember Michael Keaton or Adam West doing that prior, though I’ve never seen the versions that Lewis Wilson or Robert Lowery portrayed back in the 40’s.

Yes, you're right. My boss at the time was crazy over the show. Don't know where I got the 99 from. ?

Keaton did change his voice when he was doing Batman and Bruce.  That's where that saying "I'm Batman" in a low growly voice came from.
