I'm sure I've seen some like this that had a grayish spoke but with polished edges. I have the x-19 and you are right about less is more( I tell her that all the time ☺️) You maybe right on the wheels. Just something that cought my eye on that. So many wheels manufacturers have made knock offs of others wheels, sometimes it's just hard to tell what is what.

I just looked at Cragar 390 street pro...this might be it...the center thingie looks right (without the knock-off spinner)

There are at least 3 that I saw that look like the above. I think I'll take the x-19 path. It does tone down the "chrome" to look a little more real. customline Posted March 25, 2023 Author Posted March 25, 2023 A little movement on this one but it's not quite finished. I never know what to do here because I must be consistent with my "narrative" and the car I am imagining is a street driven custom with lots of rod run mileage since it's completion (a hot rod is never really finished). So the underside is consistent with that. The engine has been replaced with a nice flathead because the FE that some lame-brain stuffed into this car finally developed a wrist-pin knock and this flathead, which was waiting for a completely different project, was longing for home. I decided to light up the rear with tail lights from the '41 Plymouth as an homage to my old coupe. The exhaust system is kit stock and very poorly routed but who am I to argue with the experts? If you don't analyze it too much you won't care. You can't fault me for following the instructions ?. There are a number of small details left to be dealt with after body to frame attachment is made such as shortening the tail pipes ?. But this is it for a while; I have company coming soon and won't be able to work on this stuff. Till then, don't forget to tighten those paint caps. ?MO 2
espo Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I can almost hear the Flathead from here. Don't forget the positive ground on early Fords.

Glad I haven't hooked it up yet. And yeah, I can hear the sound of a flathead in my mind too. Music ?. The first engine sound I heard when coming home from the maternity hospital.

Now I need to decide to add back the drip rail or not. It changes the whole look. For this mild chop, I am leaning towards the drip rail. I dunno. Lots of work still ahead. Great profile! It's not easy to get the chop on 39-40 coupes to flow nicely. Did it get finished? Here's my last attempt: 2 1
Zippi Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I'm curious if this one got finished myself. It looks Great so far.

Here's my last attempt: It's on the shelf in an acrylic display box, guys. I'm done with it; as for being finished, probably not. I think it's missing the right, outside door handle (I never did find it). Ferbz, it looks like you got the chop down to perfection. I didn't go that low but I plan to the next time. Thanks for dredging this one back up. 3
Jim Dodson Posted Friday at 12:02 AM Posted Friday at 12:02 AM When a part goes flying into another dimension, I too worry more about getting back vertical than getting down on the floor. I also employ a trick I learned early in my radar maintenance shop days in the Air Force. Use a bright flashlight at a low angle to cause the dropped part to cast a shadow or a reflection from those chrome bits to help make the lost part more visible. Of course, this "cheat" doesn't work as well on a carpeted floor as it does a hard surface. Oh Yeah Jim, that is a killer 40 Ford! Love it! Jim D. 1
customline Posted Friday at 05:07 AM Author Posted Friday at 05:07 AM Thanks, Jim, it's one of my better builds. I keep a long stick with a ball of masking tape, sticky side out, on the end of it, and a Streamlight on my table. If I can't find it, it didn't deserve to be found. 😉 1
Sledsel Posted Friday at 06:44 PM Posted Friday at 06:44 PM I really like this build... The mild chop is nicely done for sure. I just saw this WIP and went thru every page. I saw where you mentioned your Testors paint issue which suprizes me since I have never had an issue other than very old cans of paint. Overall your build and color is very sharp. Here is my unfinished '40 mock-up that makes my comments biased I think....
customline Posted Saturday at 04:23 PM Author Posted Saturday at 04:23 PM This is an older build, Andy. I have since built a few more. The forty never gets old. 1
