NOBLNG Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 (edited) What is the purpose of this block? bolted to the pinion snout on this Mustang Super Stallion differential? Just curious.? Edited December 6, 2022 by NOBLNG
Plowboy Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 It's purpose is to dampen vibration in the rearend. Kinda like a harmonic balancer on the engine. Some claim it prevents wheelhop. But, it only weighs around five pounds. Some people even remove them.
NOBLNG Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 Thanks Roger. I guess I’ll leave it there…easier than filing it off.?

Nothing on the transmission tail shaft. The weight on the pinion must've worked. My '99 has one.
tbill Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 These type of weights are still used, new style chevy trucks use them on the transfer case of the non v8 models
