C'est TRES, TRES, TRES BELLE monsieur! Beautiful! Smooth, flowing lines that capture the essence of the mid 1960s design with an eye to the future, as if you were part of the Buick team with Bill Mitchell, Chuck Jordan and Harley Earl. Merci beaucoups, Thanks very much :)

Merci Howard!

You are right: the 66 Riv has some of the best flowing lines to come out of Detroit, period! But my favorite designer from the era is Wayne Kady, very influential at the Cadillac advanced studio. His sketches were amongst my favorites.

very nicely executed design study. I especially like the interior.

Thank you Craig! I knew I had to pay some attention to it, with the opened roof. Oh well...

Salut Claude,

Just caught up with this one. Such a wonderful custom design with show car quality. Your creativity and craftsmanship is beyond compare. My hero Bill Mitchell would be proud.

Bill Mitchell was perhaps the greatest design chief, and one of the reasons I joined GM in the early 80's (stayed 35 years). His successors Irv Rybicki, Chuck Jordan and Wayne Cherry did not do so good but then again this was when the company that used to be led by engineers & designers was taken over by the bean counters. There was a ray of hope when Ed Welburn took over with Bob Lutz allowed him to work on better designs by pushing aside the accountants. I met Ed and Bob a few times and they were the real deal. Now they are gone and my hopes for GM designs are pretty slim again.

Sorry for the long side story. Your model is absolutely beautiful and brought back beautiful memories form glories past.

Hello Claude! You never disappoint sir. Long, smooth, and low, what a work of art. My favourite photo is the straight on front view showing the mirrored panel below the grill. Beautifully executed build as usual Claude, I’m having nightmares thinking about the fitment of the body, there’s a lot of work there… Thanks for sharing another masterpiece from the house of Claude.

Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve!

Thanks for the comments. It was a lot of preccision fitting, but it never raised to the level of a "nightmare", luckily. I had this idea for a while, and I just had to channel it into styrene...LOL.

Very cool, lots of plastic surgery went into this!  It all came together really nice!  That rear angle view with the taillight section and down the side view, sick!

Found it Claude!! A great mash up of original Riv panels reflecting each other in graceful harmony. Though radically modified it is instantly recognizable as a Riveria. Open roof lightens over all design wonderfully and allows viewers an unobstructed tour of the interior design. Panel fitment is perfect and superb paint keeps the overall look very slender. Chassis is a study in well thought out engineering and very slick yet functional. Top shelf effort my friend!

Hi Sir!

Thank you for the compliments. I don't do do many customs, but this is a genre that offers so many possibilities! A 68 TBird is on the bench right now. Stay tuned!

That is some fantabulously imaginative and well crafted styrene witchery, Claude. It looks like something that sprang to life straight from the pages of a Philip K Dick novel. Kudos, sir.

The interior is way cool and I really dig what’s going on under the hood.

Hi Chris!

Thank you for the comments. Let's just say that I was looking for a "novel" way to customize the iconic 66 Riviera!

Amazingly creative and wonderful execution of what is certainly a one of a kind build.

First time in four years I've been on these types of sites and have seen scratch built seat belt latches.

Is the tail light some type of clear styrene or is it possibly a thicker clear lay film?

Hi Tom!

Thank you for the comments. I do a lot of scratchbuilt, and usually belts buckeles and retractors are among them.

The taillight is a section of a CD box, traced to shape (the W of the rear end).and sanded/polished until glass smooth. The red tint is a sharpie marker, but on the INSIDE surface of the plastic part. Light diffraction trought the part brings the red hue to the outside vertical surface. Try it: it's not very difficult to achieve!

Awesome and very slick build, Claude! If I wouldn't know better I'd say it' a Syd Mead design! Outstanding!

Hi Oliver!

Thank you. To be compared to Syd Mead, a graphic hero of mine, is quite flattering.

WOW Claude!  I just found your latest opus and you don't disappoint as usual.  There is no limit to your imagination and your skills are at the level needed to create such incredible vehicles.  I feel like I'm back in the sixties watching a car magazine where they make predictions about the cars of the future.  I haven't seen any of your construction for a while but you give a great shot!   You're going to have a lot of time to spend responding to all these well-deserved rave comments!

As long as it doesn't keep you off the bench for too long, the fruits of your labor are the fuel that keep this hobby alive.  Impressive my friend!!! ?
