TonyK Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Atlantis kit that I wasn't impressed with so decided to build a jalopy out of it. Enjoyed making a roll bar, gutting the dashboard, and interior panels to look realistic but can't see that but I know it's there. Wheels and tires from the parts box. Brush painted the body. 2
TransAmMike Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Jalopy for sure!! Nailed the look there Tony?
Horrorshow Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Great work. Looks like a backyard race car with the homemade roll cage and brush paint. Mismatched tires and trim holes add to the “jalopy” look. I’m going to do a 55 chev this style, thanks for the inspiration
stavanzer Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 (edited) Very Nice! That old Revell '57 can be a bear to assemble. Many a good '57 ended it's life looking like your build. Edited February 2, 2023 by stavanzer
TarheelRick Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 An excellent representation of home-grown racers. Very well done.
Pierre Rivard Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Very nice Tony. Tell us more about your process for the body dings & bumps and weathered paint. Looks really good and lifelike.
Paul Waymouth Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Great idea, this looks so authentic. Well done
TonyK Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 I don't really have any special skills toward making the dents and scrapes. I use a candle and a slow process of heating areas and then use various pliers to push and grab the part of the model. Use other tools to gouge an area. Flat brown paint to the holes and edges and smeared with my finger. Grey and silver on the scrapes and damaged areas. It relies more on your eye and what looks good to you. The easy part is the model needs to look bad so you can't really screw it up. Thanks for the nice comments.
