Mike C. Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Most of us remember her from Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind and A Christmas Story, but she had one of those long and storied carriers starting out on Broadway before landing on the big screen. The first time I can remember seeing her was in Close Encounters as a really hot looking single mother. Apparently, she died in mid-January but her family kept it quite for some time.
Miatatom Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 We watch A Christmas Story every year. She was the perfect balance to Darren McGaven and his antics. 1
TonyK Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 That's too bad. Always liked her. She was in Slap Shot with Paul Newman also.
NYLIBUD Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Oh man, that sucks.Yea she was great in A Xmas story. And for some reason,I thought she was in Cujo, but that was Dee Wallace, who was also the mother in ET.I got her mixed up with Dee Wallace for some reason. She was also in Harry and the Hendersons, and yes your right Tony, she was in Slap Shot,as well as “Absence of Malice”,also starring Paul Newman..That is a shame,RIP.?She passed away on Jan 9th. 2
slusher Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 I remember her in many of those 80’s movies. May she R.I.P.
Joe Nunes Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I thought she was a great actress in A Christmas Story; a great Mom character to all the family members in the movie. We watch the movie every Christmas Season. Rest Peacefully. Joe

Joe Yea,she was so perfect in her role as the mother in A Christmas Story. She had so many hilarious moments in the movie.I remember one part when she tried tasting the bar of soap, after she made Ralph (wash his mouth out)and wound up almost vomiting.Or her reaction when she had heard that Ralph had said the mother load of all curse words, the F—-word.Also her reaction to the leg lamp, and how she broke it,supposedly watering the house plants.Anyway, like I said, she was just great in the movie. 1
Joe Nunes Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Or when she was trying to get her younger son to eat at the Supper table! She looked like she was having as much fun or more than the kid was having. She really helped to pull A Christmas Story together and make the movie a fun event to watch. Joe
NYLIBUD Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 (edited) Yea I agree with you a 100%.That was a great scene. She did look like she was having a ball filming it..Or how she blew off that Ralph got into a fight, and lost his glasses. She was just a great actress.Too bad she wasn’t in the new Xmas Story.I think I read that she had retired from acting several years ago…Mommy’s little Piggy.?
