Terry Sumner Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=310120227780 I was watching this Modelhaus Barracuda notchback before Dave Zinn kindly offered up the one by the now defunct AFX n Scale. Whoever the winning bidder was paid $92.56 for the same one that he could have bought brand new directly from Modelhaus for $79.00!!! P.T. Barnum was absolutely correct when he said there's a sucker born every minute! Terry Sumner
RJWood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Yaou..... Some people just have the coin to throw around. I sometime think, with e-bay its just the thrill of the chase, so to speak. this guy will probably end up backin out of the deal.
Casey Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Not everybody's knowledgeable regarding the modelling aftermarket, or maybe the Modelhaus wouldn't ship to the winning bidder, so s/he had to buy on eBay...or...who knows, could be a lot of reasons, but I tend to think it wasn't stupidity.
Eshaver Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 CHALK UP YET ANOTHER REASON TO SAY NO EVIL BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ed Shaver
MrObsessive Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I sometime think, with e-bay its just the thrill of the chase, so to speak. I tend to agree..........I've gotten things off eBay that I probably paid a bit too much for. Also there's the matter of waiting time-------Modelhaus can take up to six weeks to ship. At least this guy should get it within a week if he paid the same day. The seller I think is Ed Cervo of Island Collectibles. He's a great guy as I've met him at the shows in person and have bought from him before.
george 53 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Yeah, I've paid too much for stuff on the bay, but, when it comes to resin stuff, unless it's not a mainstream kinda thing, since there ARE so many good resin casters out there now, if I can get it cheaper WITH postage, I'll go for it. If not, I'll just go with a favorite resin caster, who I'll know already carries what I need.
RodBurNeR Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Though it may not be the case, I know of a lot of guys that will buy something for a little more on there just to avoid waiting for an order or because they don't have the form of payment some sites prefer. I sold a resin kit on ebay awhile back for something like $190 and only paid 53bucks for it. ( I was shocked) I am not mad ...
ismaelg Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 My award for the biggest eBay idiot goes to a buyer who won a resin hood and left negative feedback to the seller because the part "did not fit his car". He was expecting a 1:1 fiberglass hood bargain!!! That was a few years ago....

He was expecting a 1:1 fiberglass hood bargain!!! That was a few years ago.... I still have decals in an envelope with a note somewhere that a buyer sent back because they were too small for his 1:1 truck. He didn't want a refund , but was mad because I didn't put in the auction they were for models. He paid $7 for them and if they were real decals would have cost more than $200.00. I was just looking for them to scan with the note, but no idea where I put them.
MrObsessive Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Well there are some good folks out there selling.......... True Story: Years ago I won a MPC Aston Martin (a '66?) kit that believe it or not had 10 bucks in the box! Seems as though the guy felt he charged a little too much for shipping and wanted to make good on it. The model originally came from Canada and I didn't think the shipping was too bad considering. Or maybe the guy was hiding money from his wife and forgot it was there!
purplehornies Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I'll tell you why I would buy on EBay for resin products in the future. Ordered a resin trans kit and decals in October 2008 and still haven't see anything but "yeah it will be out to you soon" emails from the Vendor. Although his website says delivery in 4-6 weeks. Paid with Pay Pal… can’t complain to them because the 45 day period is over. ( Kind of convenient for him right). BUT NOW I see the SAME KIT available on his EBAY STORE. And he has the balls to advertise his website on his EBay store that you should buy stuff there (wink, wink). So from now on if there is something I want from him I’ll ONLY buy it from the EBay buyer protected store. That way I have some way to hold him accountable for delivering what I paid for in a reasonable time frame. (remember my delivery expectation is being set by HIM). So you may not like EBay, but look at in my case the very aggravating alternative.

Or maybe the guy was hiding money from his wife and forgot it was there! Lol hiding from the wife. I bought a used laptop once in the past and inside the case I found hidden.. "protection" I busted up laughing and emailed the guy saying "i think you forgot something" He got really embarassed and that's the last i heard of him hahaha... got a good deal on the laptop though it was practically brand new. (I had an issue multiquoting) but about the guy thinking he was buying a 1:1 hood for his car... that's priceless!!!! LOL
Clay Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I have an idiot ebay seller. He has an Aurora(?) kit of a Studebaker Avanti half way glued together. His buy it now price is $125.00

Oh I have no problem whatsoever for the seller getting whatever he can for any given item. I just thought it kinda stupid to pay more on eBay than you would by going to the direct source. But I hadn't thought about a long delivery time and that could very well have been worth the extra bucks to that buyer. Terry

It's a bit misleading, IMHO...if you have it for sale on ebay, it should be already cast and ready to ship immediately, IMHO.
Rob Hall Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) Rob, this has been a long standing opinion of mine as well when it comes to anything on Ebay. if you don't have it physically on hand and ready to ship at the time the bidding closes, DON'T list it! i have a good feeling i know who the seller is and they are notorious for doing this to people unfortunately. Dave I agree. It's one thing to order resin items from a catalog or a web site and expect a delay, but eBay is for immediate shipment, IMHO. If there is a photo of an item for auction, it's natural for the buyers to assume it exists and is ready to ship. I've also seen model vendors doing preorders on ebay, which is a bit strange, IMHO. But at least they are calling them out as preorders, so it's not deceptive. Edited February 11, 2009 by Rob Hall
cruzn Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Terry.. although that is a shame that they Paud that for that .. But In anouther vein.. Maybe ModelHaus doesn;t take Paypal and that Buyer used Paypal to pay for it.. Ya never know.
