crispy Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Michael's will be re-setting there model section. There will be some new kits coming in with some older ones getting clearanced out. The re-sets should be started on our near March 6th. Just off the top of my head: 68 Bullitt Mustang '08 Bullitt Mustang '08 Dodge Challenger T-600 Kenworth Snapper 1/32 69 Nova 70 Nova (this one confused me and has me wondering if they mean the Yenko?) There were a few others as well but these interested me and I thought I would share. They should be pretty affordable with the 40% coupons Michael's has about every week. It also appeared there would be updates to the Testor's paint racks too. I didn't take enough time to fully look at the new sheet. Just thought I would get an FYI to the frugal shoppers in all of us. Chris
Casey Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Thanks, Chris. I know the Revell '71 Hemi Cuda 'vert and Dodge Magnum are on clearance here for $9.99, and it will be nice to see some new kits on the shelves. I think I've stocked up on all I need from the current selection. BTW, will there be any more of the Revell two-kit combos, such as the Dodge Charger ('69 & '08 STR8 Uptown), Vette ('68 vert and '06 Z06), Viper/Ferrari, or Hertz Mustangs? Those were nice to get on clearance for $4.99 each! I've noticed Michael's has cut back on the coupons bit, but you can still use competitors coupons (Jo-Ann fabrics, Hobby Lobby, etc.) at Michael's, at least here in the Milwaukee area.
jbwelda Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 does anyone else get the cold-shoulder, borderline rude attitude when they go to michaels? here in sacramento i swear i get that everytime i go to either of the two outlets i know about. kind of off topic i know but ive come to think im better off not even being tempted to go there. i always walk out of the place kinda pissed off. not from major problems, more just from getting a brush off if i try to get some help or guidance. maybe its just locally and other outlets are fine. or maybe its just me but honest, i try to be nice.
Abell82 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 The local Micheal's closed a year ago the nearest one is 45 minutes away. Yes, I did noticed an attitude from the clerks when I shopped there, but only when I went in alone. If my wife was with me, it was all good. I guess men are not supposed to shop at craft stores.
Guest promodmerc Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I've noticed the atitude at Michaels too. Hobby Lobby is just the opposite. They are as nice as can be (and most of the cashiers are darn cute )
crispy Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 (edited) I really find that hard to believe. As most of you know I work at Michael's. Their attitude is Customer first and they are very harsh with employees that treat you with no disregard. As a member of the team I go out of my way to say hi to anyone that walks in, look for people that look lost and help them. Maybe that's just me, but I think our store is pretty much like that. I can certainly see that other areas would be different, but if they want to survive in this tough situation we're in they'll have to change. One of the things we're getting "graded" on is how we treat customers. Happily I can say our store in our zone is the highest rated. The only thing I can say is call corporate or goto the Michael's website and lodge a complaint against the store. Nobody should be getting the brush off at any Michael's store. As for Hobby Lobby, it's funny you guys mention that. I get the brush off there. So it has to be a location thing. I've had a few run in's with the HL manager and he always sighs when I ask a question or look for some help. I also get that from employees as well as watching them run and hide from customers. I know it went off topic here, but I'm posting the info for you to know what's coming up. I've said this on another site, but you guys, the customer, can help the store by telling them what's wrong. Along those same lines if you want to see new stock rotated more often at these stores you also need to voice your concern over that. They are listening. I read our weekly updates and newsletters every time we get them. Noticeably they write with "her" and "she" in mind. So you guys are correct, they don't think a lot of men shop at the stores. With that said, give them another try, let them know you aren't happy with the brush off and talk to the manager. Michael's is changing, and they want you to be part of it. george 53 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Crispy's right fellas, you just gotta complain. If you don't, they (Mamagment)may not know it's happening. One past christmas, at the Micheals I go to, I went in at opening time, and when I got what I wanted, I went to check out, the little girl said she COULN'T help me, because she COULD'NT break a 100.00 bill! WHAT? I left my stuff on the counter, went over to the Service Desk, asked for a Manager, told her the problem, and that lady just about tripped over herself to try to help me! I never had a problem since, and I go there quite alot, an now they kinda know me and I don't get that "perv"look they tend ta flash at ya!
cruz Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Around my way they are not so helpful but they don't give me the cold shoulder either, they just let you shop in peace which is what I prefer. Happy their extending their model stock, it was getting to be a bore going to these stores. I did buy me 2 cans of Valspar primer, tested them and found out that they go on pretty smooth even right out of the spray can. I still prefer airbrushing it but if you have a car that doesn't have much detail in the way of emblems and other obscured details, these primers will be perfect to use. They also have a white colored primer, these are the bigger cans, not the dupli-color, smaller sized cans usually sold in automotive parts stores!!
Casey Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I've never had any issues with Michael's, even when I pull out the Jo-Ann Fabrics 40% off coupon, like I did today. I had to ask for some help to find a certain product (something I don't like to do), got some, then I still couldn't find it. The employee took me right to what I was looking for and was happy to help. Honestly, I could care less if someone treated me like ###### or gave me dirty looks when I went into any store, not just Michael's. I'm going in to look at or buy what I want, and when I'm armed with my 40% off coupon, nobody's gonna stop me!

VW Dave Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 As of October last year, we have three Michaels stores within a half hour of my house; I have never felt out-of-place there, even when I shop without my wife(the scrapbooking goddess ). Occasionally we joke about which one of us shops there more often. The new models are a great piece of news, and another reason to snag those coupons when they come.
RodneyBad Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I love Michael's for the discounts but I think their customer service might be that we only buy A (1) model and leave.. The coupon is to get people in there and buy more than 1 thing. And at 40-50% off, we're getting them at or below cost. (?) But if you look around with an open mind, you can find other things for model building. Can't wait for current issues to come in and Coupons But I have not had any issues with customer service. And I can hit 3 stores at the least in my area.

Chris Maybe you should change outta that Michael's vest and stuff before you go into the H/L..... LOL! Just kiddin' My biggest complaint about the M's is the fact that we are lumped into the "Kid's Craft's" section of the store.....
Tonioseven Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I'm going to go to Michael's pretty soon and use my coupon for the '68 Mustang Bullitt kit.

Casey Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 (edited) Hey guys, I went in just yesterday and got the cold shoulder not just from the girl ringing up my stuff, but from what I can only be sure was an assistant manager. If so who do you complain too ? You should talk with the store manager, or even address the assistant manager directly if you feel there was an issue. Maybe she just was having a bad day... frank9129 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Gentlemen, I only go the Michael's for plastic bags and to try and find magnets. The manager of the store is a real trip. She had a hissy fit when I asked for items and got a "we don't carry that" for 95% of what I was looking for. Then she hit the roof when I told her it is just a "Ladies craft store". If 99% of the items you carry are for "Ladies Crafts" what does that make you? Sure as heck not a hobby shop. I wish Frank's Models and Crafts would reopen. Frank
roadhawg Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Maybe you should change outta that Michael's vest and stuff before you go into the H/L..... LOL! Yeah, that might have something to do with it! I've alway been treated well at both Michaels AND H/L......maybe they just like my looks.
crispy Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 LOL, You guys are hilarious! I know an assistant mgr. at my local Hobby Lobby and she knows I work at Michael's, but she is the only one that will help me with anything in the store. As far as a uniform, Michael's has name tags and busboy aprons. Seriously, I certainly remember to take them off before I leave! LOL Frank9129, yes, it is a Arts and Crafts store. Depending on the Volume store you are (A-E) depends on what they can carry. IF you are looking for strictly hobby stuff, you are most likely not going to find it there. They do carry bags and magnets though. 82k5, Casey is right. Go to that link. Make sure you have your store number handy (usually a 4 digit code). Let them know what happened and to whom you may have spoke with at the store. With the new dress code Assistant Managers and Managers are the only ones with their title marked on their name tag. All others just have their name on the tag. While you at it let them know how you'd like to see the model and paint selection widened. Chris
Guest promodmerc Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Chris, Are Michael's coupons one line? I get the weekly e-mail add but I have never seen the coupons like HL does.
crispy Posted February 22, 2009 Author Posted February 22, 2009 Hey Dan, That is the biggest thorn in Michael's side. They just can't seem to get it through the corporate minds that it would be easier to put the coupon on-line like HL does. They keep telling everyone to sign up on-line to receive the ad and the coupons. Not everyone has been getting coupons. I know they are still working on it. It's hard to find the coupon online when it is out there though. So I'm not really any help. Chris
Casey Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 New 40% coupon for Michael's here: http://sdm3.rm04.net/servlet/MailView?ms=M...p;mt=1&rt=0
MR BIGGS Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Thanks for the coupon Casey. Now as far as Michaels employees, at first I used to get looked at like if I was casing the place to rob them, they even followed me around sometimes thinking what’s this big bald headed gang member up to looking around for ribbon and paints. Now it’s a whole different story. I have paid hundreds of dollars for framing our company pictures, artwork and just a bunch of stuff to re-do our walls and offices at work. Now when I walk in its all smiles and what can I help you with today Sir.
Merkur XR4Ti Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I have never had any issues at the Michael's I have gone to. I have bought kits and compressed air and cheap airbrushes etc, and never once have I felt like I didn't belong there. And this has all been in New England, which doesn't exactly have the friendliest reputation around. So I dunno, guys. It sounds like an isolated thing.
