Hi Guys, here is my Tamiya New Beetle - something different. First off I started it as a 'girlie' car for my wife, but decided to build it something different instead. So I made differences in the front bumper: filled the turning lights and cut off the grille with the foglights, used mesh instead. I opened the front hood but made it into a trunk as I put the engine behind the backseats. So I stratchbuilt a trunk compartment, painted it black and added black carpet material inside and on the interior of the hood. I found the hinges in my leftover box. So I put an engine behind the seats, I don't really know what engine it is as it was also part of my leftover box. I only used the engine block as had to work in a small area. So real fanatic modifying builders, be gentle with me as I did not modify the car to a RWD from a FWD, but modified the exhaust making a hole for it at the rear underside. Then I put some stuff in the engine bay also, making a firewall, a turbo (from a Mustang), battery, some tubes, everything from my parts box. I also added some heat resistant foil on the inside of the hood and a rubber belt to make the closing easier, hinges are leftover. Added a roof spoiler also and used PE parts for the brakes, license plates and interior stuff. Cut the holes of the backing and rear foglights at the rear bumper to make room for the exhaust tips, and painted the lower part of the bumper black to imitate a diffusor. The interior is dark red and black with PE parts and some carpet material, changed the stock front seats to racing seat, added CF on the backside of them, and decided not to use the headrest of the rear seats - would have looked stupid IMO. Wheels are from a R34 Skyline, Bridgestone decals from a Silvia, paint is DupliColor. Enough of the talk, here are the pics. Comments and criticism are welcome:

I like it. Thats where the new beetles engine should be. :D

Ditto that!

I was a bit disappointed when they first announced the "New" Beetle hoping it would once again be the rear engined.

This model is really cool! Love the wheels and stance too!

Now if someone could only do this in 1:1..............There was word that VW had some sort of Beetleish rear engine car in the future. Maybe something to compete with the Mini------but with the car companies literally fighting for survival (even the European and Asian ones ;)) I doubt we'll see such a car. :)

Yes, this is cool, I like the whole look, very well done and this is where the engine should be. Why didn't you build this thing and show VW in 98? ;)

Yeah I wish it was too, people do it in 1:1, not many but there are some kits I think. Some people put Audi and Porsche engines in also, like the older ones. I heard of that to, but I don't think so either although MINI is wanting to build that 4X4 one! ;)
