Ulf Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 (edited) MPC's Nova there is knowledge and opinions about and MPC- "multiple plastic challenges"... My idea was a low budget street car, maybe he does some street racing what do I know. Google or search on Youtube for flat black Nova 1977 and you will find my inspiration. My wife shouted before the holidays, have you packed your clothes ? Yes darling... (Some different rims, Bucket seats, Steering wheels, A small block, Headers & Two different fans) I wanted to keep the soul of the kit and not replace the chassis. Since the interior is apparently wrong but the body ok, the focus was on making the interior acceptable. I have an idea of scale matte black, i.e. dark gray. Edited June 24, 2023 by Ulf Layout 5
espo Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 A consideration for a semi-flat gray color much like a primer. I used Tamiya TS-66 Lin Gray spray can on a little shoe box Ford. Don't know if this is what you have in mind, but maybe an option. 3
redscampi Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 This is going to be cool! I built one or two of these about 30 years ago. Great subject!
Ulf Posted June 26, 2023 Author Posted June 26, 2023 (edited) a quick mock up A few thick coats of paint on the chassis and the absence of details and my vacation construction may not be visible.... Edited June 26, 2023 by Ulf Texting 3
Ulf Posted June 29, 2023 Author Posted June 29, 2023 Summer cottage construction is progressing, aiming for a body in primer before it's time to work again. 1
Ulf Posted June 29, 2023 Author Posted June 29, 2023 spencer1984 ’s flat black Nova I’m not the first.. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/130737-amt-nova-from-thinner-novel/
Ulf Posted July 1, 2023 Author Posted July 1, 2023 The primer is on, Humbrol 145(bluegrey). It will dry for a few weeks now while I do some work. My intended palette, scale matte black, i.e. dark gray, just a few chrome parts, various shades of gray, orange engine, yellow traction bars, brown interior, blue seats, red primer floor.
Ulf Posted July 30, 2023 Author Posted July 30, 2023 Something went wrong with the Humbrol color that I airbrushed just before we went home from the summer cottage to work for a couple of weeks, so when we came back I bathed the body (something I thought, I will never do...). Now it was ordinary universal primer, for next summer I will order Tamiya primer to the island. Today I mounted round headlights that come from the AMT 65 Ford Mustang via the scrap box, it became a completely different expression (the remains of the original are at the side).
espo Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Think the round lights look better than the square ones. 1
dwc43 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 The round ones are factory for that car, but they have a black bezel that goes around the lights to fill in all of that open area around that light.
dino246gt Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I hope you plan to drill out those and use clear lenses? It's just a pet peeve of mine. Of course you don't have to, it's your build! I'm liking it!
Ulf Posted August 1, 2023 Author Posted August 1, 2023 Thanks for respons. No worries, I'll skip the work of drilling out this time(too). The kit is a challenge in itself and I'm a bit on edge building with a limited number of tools etc in the summer cottage. It feels like an open goal for Moebius to make a more modern Nova, the design itself and it is probably possible to build everything on such a kit. pet peeve, I had to Google, I have lots of those in life.? I skip the bezel around the headlights, see my inspiration. I have filed away the rubber on the bumpers and glued plasticard strips, next time if there is a next time I will think of another way, possibly I will glue a thin plasticard on the height to get the upper pressing better. The black is preshading.
