Milo Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 What should I do with extra mixed/thinned paint when I'm done with a certain model or with that section of airbrushing?
Deathgoblin Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Personally, I keep some mixed paints on my workbench in containers I kinda fudged together. I found lids from some of the older Evian water bottles would snap tightly onto the lid from a 20 oz soda bottle and keeps a tight seal. I saved a bunch of the lids and just reuse them once I no longer need the color or it degrades. But I keep some custom things for long periods of time this way, like a rust paint I use on exhaust systems. Paints will keep for a long time as long as the container seals tightly. 1

I use these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/171655129213 They seal tightly, with a gasket in the cap. The paint for my dragster has been in them for a couple of months, now and I've yet to thin them, again. I've had some other mixtures in them for a couple of years, or so, and they're fine, too. 1
Dpate Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Tamiya has 3 different size jars you can buy. I own a ton of the 45mL jars, but there bout $3 a jar. 1
Bills72sj Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 (edited) I decant cans and needed to store the extra paint. I got a set of eye dropper bottles with labels from Amazon. The set I got are no longer available but I am sure you could find something similar. https://www.amazon.com/Lab-Dropping-Bottles/b/ref=dp_bc_aui_C_5?ie=UTF8&node=393356011 Edited September 23, 2023 by Bills72sj
bobthehobbyguy Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Whatever you do don't put the thinned paint back with the unthinned paint. You run the risk of all of the jar going bad as the thinned paint composition has been changed. 2
