TarheelRick Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 Mark I really enjoy your tenacity working on this seat. It may not look like you want, but to me it does look a bit more comfortable than the stock one. Keep up the great detail work you do on all your builds.

I really appreciate your comment on the seat. It helps to get some feedback along the way on these builds.
MarkJ Posted February 14, 2024 Author Posted February 14, 2024 The main part of the seat is finished. I might add a strip between the outer and inner parts of the seat. 1
Pierre Rivard Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Never seen so much work go into a seat but it has paid off. Nicely done sir!

Thanks for your continued support, Pierre. You will never see me put this much time into a seat again. Thats for sure. I have promised myself an OOB build next except for the tires and wheels that come in the kit. They are just too ridiculous to use. But that won't require any detailing.
MarkJ Posted February 15, 2024 Author Posted February 15, 2024 This is the only reference picture I had for the seat. I'm not even sure it wasn't added by the owner of the 1:1 replica car and not what the real car had, and I'm not even sure if the outer part of the seat continued the diamond pattern. I also think my diamonds might be too big but that's no bigee. I mainly just thought it was a pretty cool seat and I wanted to try to replicate it the best I could hoping the real car from back in the day had one like it.
MarkJ Posted February 17, 2024 Author Posted February 17, 2024 Had to cut the slots in the seat for the lap belts to go through.
MarkJ Posted February 19, 2024 Author Posted February 19, 2024 Finally found a ref picture for the bottom of the car. Very small and grainey but can get a pretty good idea of how it looks if I compare it to other Banjo chassis of the time it competed. 1
MarkJ Posted February 22, 2024 Author Posted February 22, 2024 Just need to make the shoulder and belt harness hardware and then I can prime and paint all the seat parts and get it assembled as a unit, to install into the interior after it is painted.
MarkJ Posted February 26, 2024 Author Posted February 26, 2024 (edited) Finally had good weather on Saturday. 70 degrees, 27% humidity and no wind at all. I broke out my new combo pack of Neo by Iwata small compressor and gravity feed air brush. Found my AlcladII chrome which is already thinned properly for air brush use and sat down and went after it in my backyard. Really turned out great and the airbrush compressor tandem worked flawlessly. the new Revell chrome product would have probably been better, but that stuff is almost impossible to get. At least for me. You have to have a very smooth and glossy black undercoat to make AlcladII work to its best which I probably did not do a good enough job at, but the wheels look more like chrome than silver. I will post them later. Edited February 26, 2024 by MarkJ
MarkJ Posted February 27, 2024 Author Posted February 27, 2024 Like I said, it would have been better if I could have gotten the black smoother but that's about as good as I can do these days. I'm still pretty happy with it and a full shot picture of the model will look better than a close up of the wheels. The airbrush combo worked so well I might be rethinking the way I paint my bodies in the future. Just really hard to find good weather days down here in the summer. The humidity needs to be less than 85% and that's really hard to get here.in the summer.
MarkJ Posted March 2, 2024 Author Posted March 2, 2024 Painted the seat and did some adjustments on the roll cage and added a firewall. Ran out of time to take photos.
Rattlecan Dan Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 Can't wait to see the finished product. The seat looks great.

It's going to be a long time before this one is done. I really appreciate you stopping by. It's pretty lonely around here.
MarkJ Posted March 4, 2024 Author Posted March 4, 2024 Need to paint the seat frame a very light gray that will be the color of the interior and roll cage. Once I get that done, I can assemble the seat as a one-piece assembly that I can install into the chassis. Then on to the instrument panel. 1
MarkJ Posted March 5, 2024 Author Posted March 5, 2024 The seat assembly is finally done. I just need to do a little touch up and seal everything down with some dullcoat clear. The artist tape belts tend to pull lose from the seat with age if you don't. I can't find any seat belt material that looks 1/25 scale, so I just use the black artist tape. Pictures to come later.
MarkJ Posted March 6, 2024 Author Posted March 6, 2024 Seat pictures. Now on to the instrument panel. 1
MarkJ Posted March 15, 2024 Author Posted March 15, 2024 I'm sure all you guys have figured out what I'm building, so here is the target I'm trying to achieve. Terry's IROC 13 winning Camaro from 1989. This is the car he captured the overall championship with his win at Michigan that year. I have better pictures of the car but they all have copyrighted photo printed on top of them, so I figured I should not post those. The one below is a captured photo from a you tube video of the Michigan race, so that's why it such poor quality. 1
MarkJ Posted March 16, 2024 Author Posted March 16, 2024 I realized the dash was not lining up properly with the roll cage, so I had to extend it back somewhat to make it look more like the ref pictures. The key words here are to make it look more like not make it look exactly like the ref pictures. This is true of about everything about this build. I just want to get it in the ballpark. When you modify a stock kit into a race car that's about all you can hope for. 1
