Horrorshow Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Started with the Revel Foose 65 Impala kit. Added Plastic Performance roll cage, wheels and tires. Ace decals finished it off. I was going to make styrene headlight and taillight covers but they were an odd shape. I ended up installing the headlights and painting them steel color. For the taillights, I glued styrene behind the body then added steel paint, not 100% accurate but still looks okay. The rest of the kit went together pretty well but there is a twist in it. I’m pretty sure Bobby only ran one race for Smokey Yunick, the 65 World 600. 5
TransAmMike Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 It is a cool subject. Nicely done. Bobby was on of the good guys, was a big fan of all the Allisons.

I had met Bobby at a DIRT modified race at Flemington NJ in 1983, he signed a bumper sticker for me, I should still have it. His car was a Miller beer replica of his WC cars. I met Davey when I was running at Islip in 1984, I got to talk with him a bit. Too tragic that he is no longer with us.
TonyK Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Looks like a real oval racer to me. Always interesting to read what a modeler started with and changes you made.

Wife just loved him. Her and our daughter actually went to his burial in Hueytown. Met Bobby a few times at autograph signings and he was so nice.

Donnie was my favorite growing up…I have four of his builds in queue Edited October 3, 2023 by Horrorshow Grammar 1
bobss396 Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Too bad that Donnie's career was cut way short. Both brothers were amazing racers. The fact that they raced all year around even back in Florida made them great. The story of the '64 Chevelle is a good one. Bobby petitioned NASCAR to allow him to use a HM front stub and it was denied. He wound up drawing one out of the shop concrete floor and made his own. https://www.chevyhardcore.com/features/bobby-allison-racing/
MarkJ Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Actually it was the 66 World 600. Excellent job on the build . Smokey switched to the Chevelle later in 66 and Mario Andretti drove it in the Firecracker 400. The 65 Chevy was such a departure from the boxy 64 Chevy. you can tell by looking at it that it had to be much better aerodynamically.

Much like my model building, my memory isn’t quite so accurate anymore. I’m pretty sure the car was unsponsored for this race but I thought it would look better with a logo on the rear quarters.
